1. Brendan Kennelly: Saint Brigids Prayer Date: Objectives: Examine a new poem. 1. 2. Answer exercise questions to perform a closer reading of the poem. Warm up: Discussion What is the traditional image of Heaven? What does the afterlife look like in your opinion or in other people s opinion.

3. Context for this Poet note this His family owned a Pub and he grew up helping behind the bar, listening to stories, songs and banter. He was a talented Gaelic footballer which got him a scholarship to Trinity. He became famous for appearing on The Late Late Show, adverts and really promoting his work. He didn't want to explain life he wanted to capture it.

4. Worksheets The poem and notes are on the page. Complete all questions to form more notes. This will require a personal examination of the poem; for you to honestly interact with it. You only need to quote when asked for words and lines. The objective is that in doing so, you get to know the poem better than just taking down notes. Important note: write both questions and answers.
