Crime and Prevention Crime is a rapidly evolving problem Criminals are adapting quicker Criminals are using forms of technology to commit crimes Police need to adapt to crime trends, and new technology at a rapid rate
The evolution of technology Policy changes and technology advancements initiated transformation Started with conducting censuses Basic police reports were the first forms of compiled data and statistics Documents were kept in files and drawers because computers were obsolete The UCR and NIBRS were created to help collect and filter data The use of vehicles helped law enforcement cover more ground than on foot and bicycle Development of computers and two- way communication systems CAD system, DNA Identification, body cameras, and other tools
