  11. Key concepts for Year 5 More challenging communication skills Difficult patients Breaking bad news Explanations Understanding medical law Mental Health Act Abortion Act Fraser Guidelines Dealing with the viva Need to be concise Have a structure

  12. Obstetrics Clinics Antenatal midwife lead GDM clinic Obstetric Medicine EPAU Obstetric Triage Befriend midwives on the labour ward, explain what you need to see Do night shifts on labour ward Management can be divided into antenatal, perinatal and postnatal. Know when to admit

  13. Gynaecology Clinics are useful for history taking and examinations Attend 2 week wait clinics must understand indications for referral Attend specialist clinics this can turn up in PACES Gynae Theatres for speculum and bimanual. Get comfortable asking patients before the operation for permission. Listen to doctors explaining procedures, read patient info leaflets

  14. Paediatrics Paeds is huge! Try to learn as much as you can on firms. Learning everything on firms is impossible Learn developmental milestones, vaccination schedule and normal obs early Community/developmental paediatrics can be helpful Paeds A&E is very good preparation for PACES Try to see the ABCDE approach, as this may turn up in PACES For chronic conditions must know the details of MDT management
