ERCOT Secure API Update Presented by: Brian Brandaw and Balendu Mishra Date: 8/29/2024
Secure API Survey Results Thanks to everyone who took time to submit their feedback Overall there was broad support for the concept of a modernized EWS interface REST/JSON or both REST/JSON and SOAP/XML Revised security model to ease onboarding Self service Notifications Listener setup Interest in less polling by clients for new data Worth noting that none of the questions had unanimous answers A reminder of the diversity of our client population 2 PUBLIC
Secure API Survey Results Mixed feedback on more specific questions Subscription or Push Model for outbound data less favored than event notification Little support for a Claim Check pattern Will discuss this specific item during the next TWG An undertone of concern about cutover was clear Not surprising given the scope of the change being discussed! Current plan is for old and new EWS solutions to be supported in parallel for as much as 1 year A Market Trials period tentatively planned for April August 2026 Production date is targeted for Late August 2026 Decommissioning the legacy EWS solution tentatively targeted for August 2027 All of these dates are subject to change as we prioritize work against efforts such as RTC+B 3 PUBLIC
Secure API Pilot Scope The pilot will consist of two basic functions: An enhanced version of Change Active Notification URL Extending this transaction to support adding and editing URLs Switch between WAN and Internet URLs A version of Get LMPs as an example of a Market Info service These will be available as REST services in either JSON or XML New Authentication model will also be in scope Please note that this will be using mocked data No integration to ERCOT back end systems Data will look and feel correct, but may not be actual data 4 PUBLIC
Next Steps Will schedule a kick off call with the pilot volunteers to occur prior to the next TWG meeting Will present more details on the Claim Check pattern currently being considered Feel free to pass along concerns or questions 5 PUBLIC
