Erasmus Mundus Programme Overview and Objectives

The Erasmus Mundus programme aims to enhance the quality of higher education through international cooperation, promote intercultural understanding, and increase the attractiveness of European higher education. It consists of 3 main actions: Joint Master Courses, Joint Doctorates, and Partnerships. Action 1 focuses on developing joint programmes by HEIs, offering scholarships and grants for students and researchers. While there has been limited involvement of Jordanian HEIs in the programme, a significant number of scholarships have been awarded to students and scholars from 2004 to 2012.

3. ERASMUS MUNDUS: 3 ACTIONS SCHOLARSHIPS ACTION 1: Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Courses Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates NO CALL IN 2013 students (undergr to post- doc.) and Staff (acad. and admin.) ACTION 2: Erasmus Mundus Partnerships ACTION 3: Projects to promote higher education cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world

Action 1 Joint Programmes An EM Masters Course or Joint Doctorate is developed and delivered by a consortium of HEIs (with study in at least two HEIs) must involve at least three European HEIs and may involve non-EU HEIs awards full-study scholarships + scholar grants provides a joint degree/mulitple degrees

Action 1 Joint Programmes In 2013: 138 Masters Courses and 43 Joint Doctorates will offer: 1,500 + Masters scholarships, 300 doctoral fellowships, 450 scholar scholarships Instances of participation:745 EU, 240 non-EU 2004-2012: Scholarships for over 14,000 masters students, 2,000 scholars and 640 doctoral candidates

8. Action 1: How much is the scholarship? Two categories of students/doctoral candidates: Category A: Non-Europeans who are not resident, nor have carried out their main activity for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years, in a European country Category B: Any individual fulfilling the academic admission conditions set by the consortium and who does not fulfil Category A requirements (mainly Europeans)

Action 2 Partnerships Large partnerships between universities from the EU and non-EU universities from a specific region (lots) Scholarships of varying length (1 month to 3 years) Bachelor, master, doctorate, post-doctorate students and Staff (training, teaching, research activities, HE management) Mobility not linked to specific programmes (all programmes on offer in partner HEIs can be followed) Addressing different target groups including vulnerable groups Integration of cross-cutting issues (i.e. disadvantaged group and gender balance)
