of that is
wrong!

Its much harder

“It’s really important that I know you have understood what I
have suggested, so could you tell me in your own words what
you have understood”
“I’ve just given you a lot of information, if you had to explain
what I have said to a friend -what might you say?”
“Would it be ok if you went though what I have just told you, so
I can be sure I’ve been clear in what I have said.”
“I’ve just given you a lot of suggestions and advice, so I know
I’ve explained them properly could you tell me what you
remember.”
“Sometimes it’s helpful to write down advice, this is very
important so could I suggest you write it down……. And then
repeat it back to me. Thank you”

Remote consulting presents distinct challenges, requiring different skills than face-to-face interactions. Studies reveal that patients often misunderstand or forget information communicated virtually. To ensure clarity and understanding, healthcare professionals should adopt a methodical approach, employ structured communication, and encourage patients to summarize and repeat back key points. Utilizing various strategies such as writing down advice, signposting to resources, and exploring further learning opportunities can enhance the effectiveness of remote consultations.
