Remote consulting is MORE challenging than face-2-face consulting

Studies show that patients only recall 50% of what is said and 50% of that is wrong!
Its much harder when consulting remotely to be sure the patient has understood what you have advised

Be methodical Have a structure It might take longer You need to find a way of ensuring you know that the patient has understood your advice Remember
Its really important that I know you have understood what I have suggested, so could you tell me in your own words what you have understood I ve just given you a lot of information, if you had to explain what I have said to a friend -what might you say? Would it be ok if you went though what I have just told you, so I can be sure I ve been clear in what I have said. I ve just given you a lot of suggestions and advice, so I know I ve explained them properly could you tell me what you remember. Sometimes it s helpful to write down advice, this is very important so could I suggest you write it down . And then repeat it back to me.
