  1. AgrAbility Cattle Equipment Assistive Technology Nebraska AgrAbility -Rodney Peterson, Rural Rehabilitation Specialist -Emily Freudenburg, Rural Rehabilitation Specialist

  2. Introduction Want to wish you all a Merry Christmas! Thank you for taking time to be on this call with us today! With Nebraska being the Beef State, we have many clients that have cattle and need assistance in keeping their operation producing. This presentation is being put together in order to talk about equipment that has made the biggest impact on our cattle farmers and ranchers with disabilities. Nebraska is the leading cattle feeding state in the US 34% of our Corn production goes to Ethanol plants in NE and about 18% is fed to cattle. This number is slightly skewed as the corn that goes into the ethanol plants, usually comes back out as a bi-product of feed for cattle.

  3. Cattle Equipment Technology Cattle Equipment Technology has evolved greatly in the past 10 years. This making it much easier and safer for farmers and ranchers to use, as well as for those with a disability to use. The new technology currently available, has had a huge impact on farmers and ranchers with disabilities. Disabilities we see: The Aging Farmer/Rancher, Back Injury, Upper Extremity Injuries, Arthritis, Stroke, Mobility, and Spinal Cord Injury

  4. Introducing a New Feed Box Discovered a need for farmers to transport bi-product and supplement cubes over long distances. Using a tractor and feed wagon is not efficient and is very time consuming. In the winter, many farmers and ranchers feed supplements due to the very cold weather we experience. This new hydraulic feed box will make feeding these supplements over greater distances possible and more efficient. This item will soon be in production here in NE. Turning the phone over to Kelly Florell to discuss this wagon/feed box. This product will be able to be used on a hydraulic bale bed of a pick-up.

  5. Vendors for Feed Box Contact Information: Kelly Florell Kelly s Auto & Trailer Sales in Elm Creek, NE 308-856-4900 Kelly is a dealer for Hydra Line products, DewEze, Besller products, all of which have a hydraulic feed bed. http://www.buyatkellys.com

  11. Cattle Working Chutes & Alleyways Disability: Back Injuries, Arthritis, Upper Extremity Injuries, Stroke, Spinal Cord Injuries Determination on manual versus hydraulic equipment Type of injury Cattle numbers Number of catches per year with cattle And if the task can be delegated As a rule of Thumb we used 100-150 cattle to recommended a hydraulic. This will then be equated on average to catch at least 600-800 catches per year. - - - - - - -

  12. Cattle Working Chutes Arrow Cattle Equipment Manual Equipment http://arrowcattlequip.com/?gclid=CJrthpeS3MkCFR ApaQodxxkJBQ The Q Catch 8500-V This chute seems to be one that we recommend the most as its extremely ergonomic, long handles for leverage, and requires very little strength to operate.

  13. Cattle Working Chutes If the Hydraulic working chute justifies, two of the options we have used are the Silencer and the Titan West. The hydraulic chutes, have hand controls that come down to waist level. This can be operated from a wheelchair. There is no need to pull, tug, and push heavily upon the levers. This gives a work option to the worker with a back injury, paraplegic, and shoulder injuries.

  14. Silencer Hydraulic Chute http://www.molymfg.com Silencer has what they call louvers. These belted louvers make it so the cattle cannot see the operator as they come into the chute. The silencer is well known for its ease of operation and noise elimination (making it easier on the cattle and the operator).

  15. Titan West Hydraulic Chute http://www.titanwestinc.com This chute also has the lowered hydraulic lever bank, lowered to waist level. This chute is a little louder than the silencer.

  16. Cattle Working Alleyways This again justifies by the number of cattle and the disabilities. Manual Alleyways: Most important feature is to make sure that the alleyway is adjustable for width and different sizes of cattle. And that there are back up gates. Arrow Cattle Equipment, has a Q Catch 26 ft alleyway, handling system 3000. This system is a manual tub and alleyway.

  17. Cattle Working Alleyways Hydraulic Silencer: Less people. Less effort. Added safety. TurretGate is an advanced gate design that shuttles back through the Turret, re- positioning behind waiting animals. It eliminates the need to swing the gate back open into the waiting animals and virtually eliminates the need for humans to be in with the cattle. The gate is controlled remotely and significantly reduces the stress on animals, compared to the old-style manual crowd gates that pressure the animals into smaller areas, increasing the animal s stress. TurretGate helps keep your animals calm and your people safe. Moly's hydraulic sort gates can easily be added and customized to an existing facility. --- This source is taken directly from the Moly Manufacturing Website. This has a huge positive impact for farmers and ranchers with disabilities, lessening the chance of a secondary injury for clients.

  19. Silencer System Set Up

  20. Portable Cattle Catch Pens This system makes it possible for farmers and ranchers to eliminate a work task. No need to now set up panels out on pasture to round up cattle. These systems can now be made hydraulic eliminating bending, cranking, and carrying. No need to put panels on a trailer, take them off and set them up, and then put them back on the trailer.

  22. Calf Catchers In Nebraska, calving season is long and exhausting process. Cows and farmers/ranchers are both stressed. When a cow calves, the farmer/rancher must tag it, treat, and move the calf. This tends to be very upsetting to the mother cow, and in turn very dangerous for the farmer/rancher. Disability: Back injuries, amputations, upper extremity injuries, arthritis, stroke The Calf Catcher system, keeps the farmer/rancher safe at all times.
