Mitzvah day Starter: What do you think Mitzvah Day is?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNywvefQc-M Watch the video linked here to explore more. What is Mitzvah Day? It is an annual day of faith-based social action that takes place in November each year, primarily in the United Kingdom. On Mitzvah Day each year, community groups and individuals undertake a range of volunteer projects for those in need in their local community. How can it also help communities to get along with each other?
What is social action? Action means physically taking steps towards something you perhaps want to change or improve. Social action is about people coming together to bring about change. Social action brings together people from all walks of life. People from different backgrounds, races and religions come together for a cause they all support. They are united together in their desire for change.
There are 7 steps during each Mitzvah day. They are displayed on the next slide. Think about how each step allows communities to get along with each other.
Mitzvah Day activities 1. Stand outside a local supermarket and encourage shoppers to purchase extra items which will be donated to a charity of your choice: a simple and effective way to help. 2. Makeover a room: whether it is in a hospice, a drop in centre, a care home, or a children's home, transform a necessary space and improve the quality of life for many. 3. Treat a particular local group to a tasty lunch or tea on site. From senior citizens to children with learning disabilities, those in need of care will greatly appreciate your efforts. 4. Collect items a charity requires and learn all about why the goods are so much in demand. 5. Get the office to donate their lunch- any fresh sandwiches or fruit - to a local homeless shelter and make their job easier for the day. 6. Get creative and organise an exciting hands-on project, whether it involves crafts, baking or cooking, produce items to donate to a local cause. Inspire others to have some fun while making a positive difference to those in need. 7. Improve the environment through local initiatives. From cleaning up a cemetery to working on city farms and parks, get involved to improve our highly valued outdoor spaces. You might also think about planting a tree in your local area.

Food for thought Mitzvah Days does not help the community come together. Do you agree or disagree? I can t join in with Mitzvah Day because I am not Jewish. Is this true?
