  1. Seeing Good Days 1 Peter 3:8-12

  2. Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8 9 ESV

  3. For Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 1 Peter 3:10 11 ESV

  4. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. 1 Peter 3:12 ESV

  5. Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:13 15 ESV

  6. having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God s will, than for doing evil. 1 Peter 3:16 17 ESV

  7. Three expectations that every follower and believer of Christ should count on: salvation, submission and suffering.

  8. Dear friends, dont be surprised when the fiery ordeal comes among you to test you as if something unusual were happening to you. Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of the Messiah, so that you may also rejoice with great joy at the revelation of His glory. If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 1 Peter 4:12 14 HCSB

  9. Remember the word that I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name s sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me. NASB95P John 15:20 21 ARA

  10. Now finally, all of you should be like- minded and sympathetic, should love believers, and be compassionate and humble, not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8 9 HCSB

  11. To bless is to see good days.

  12. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Romans 12:14 HCSB

  13. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34 35 ESV

  14. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. John 15:12 14 ESV

  15. If I am chosen, that doesnt mean that others are not chosen. When I really receive this gift of being God s beloved, I look around and see that all others are beloved, too! -Henri Nouwen

  16. Beloved - something or someone dearly loved and cherished.

  17. Do I have the mindset that everyone that I come into contact with is dearly loved and cherished by God?

  18. You and I were made to bless another with God s favor.

  19. Jesus changed the world by blessing people with God s favor, treating them as God s beloved.

  20. and we sent Timothy, our brother and Gods fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith, so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this. For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; and so it came to pass, as you know. NASB95P 1 Thessalonians 3:2 4 ARA

  21. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 2 Corinthians 7:10 ESV

  22. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8:16 17 ESV

  23. Are we willing to suffer with Christ in order that we may be also glorified with Him? There are no unusual, unexpected trials with the walk of Jesus...just expected responses.

  24. 1. Like-mindedness - same thinking; unity of spirit and harmony (v. 8)

  25. So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Philippians 2:1 5 ESV

  26. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, Philippians 2:1 5 ESV

  27. 2. Sympathy - putting oneself in anothers place (v.8)

  28. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1 3 ESV

  29. 3. Mutual Love - Loving ones brother or sister (v.8)

  30. By obedience to the truth, having purified yourselves for sincere love of the brothers, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again not of perishable seed but of imperishable through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:22 23 HCSB

  31. 4. Compassionate - Affection that is felt resulting in kindly actions (v.8)

  32. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. Ephesians 4:32 HCSB

  33. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36 ESV

  34. 5. Humility - Voluntary submission; no need to defend my honor or the Lord s (v.8)

  35. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28 30 ESV

  36. Gracious action is part of our calling as Christians following a gracious Lord.

  37. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 18 ESV

  38. But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. Luke 6:27 31 ESV
