Hamilton High School, established in 1895, has a rich history and continues to serve over 500 students with a dedicated staff. Marion County's economic landscape has evolved from its past as a hub for manufacturing to its current focus on education and healthcare. The county boasts a strong school system with 11 schools and over 3800 students. Students are encouraged to explore non-traditional career paths post-graduation. Actually, things changed about 10 years ago HHS received a $9,000 grant from NW AL RC&D for an on campus weather station We borrowed an old greenhouse from another school Stacy Page became Guidance Counselor
Back to Three years ago. AHEN grant awarded What do we do now? Let s give students opportunities to discover other non- traditional opportunities. How do we do that?

Of Ed., Marion County Three Years Ago Health Science Pathway Pre-Nursing Started as half-day program with three classes Has developed into full day program 6 of 7 seniors became CNA (Certified Nursing Assistance) before graduation at no cost to the student

Other Happenings Cont. Teacher Education Pathway Four year program for students interested in the field of education Students completing the program intern at elementary or middle for 180 hours of internship. 2016-17 will be the first year of interns.
BSCC Offerings The career tech classes have been expanded to include: HVAC Computer Science
Advanced Career Tech Endorsement Spearheaded by Mr. Hollingsworth ALSDE granted the awarding of an Advanced Career Technical Endorsement in 2015 to our 11thand 12thstudents. A waiver of a math and science course in each of the 11thand 12th grade years allows students to take dual enrollment tech classes at no cost.
Hamilton High School GreenHouse Project (HHSGHP) HHS began to use an old greenhouse on campus primarily for transition skills for SPED students in the school 2013-14. Students raised flowering plants, ferns, mums, vegetables and sold them to the public. The greenhouse was old and in need of repair and enlarging.
HHSGHP cont. HHS applied for and was awarded a $10,000 grant form NW AL RC&D to remodel the existing greenhouse. Engineering students designed trusses Construction Framing students helped build greenhouse
HHSGHP cont. The New greenhouse will: Have auto fertilization and watering Partially operate on solar power Also: Hydroponics in conjunction with Environmental Science Class Horticulture class taught SPED students will still operate HHSGHP
Financial Aid Workshops Informational workshops held each year: BSCC and UNA Parents/students in 11thand 12thgrades
Aggie Branch Built and funded by Local 1stNational Bank Fully operational branch of 1stNational Bank FDIC insured Within building of HHS Operational 2015-16 during school lunch hour
Aggie Branch Cont. Over 50 new accounts opened Student bank tellers: fully trained by 1stNational Bank Business teacher serves as Branch Manager Only service not offered: loans Hope to expand service time to morning before school starts
Where is HHS headed? Continue to offer CTE courses and expand as needed for students to be ready for the workforce in NW Alabama 3 5 years 50 - 60 % of students on a CTE track
What about academics? Continue to offer Honors level courses grades 9 12 BSCC dual enrollment academic courses expand each year ACT scores continue to increase: four 2016 seniors with 30+ Offering AP Biology and AP History 2016-17
