Dear customers,
Thank you for your attendance and support at our forums, bilateral meetings and workshops. We are grateful for your
help in developing and refining a series of technical and commercial solutions that should, in time, allow us to connect
more low carbon generation to our East of England Network.
It is a complex project with many moving parts, and we felt it appropriate that we begin to update you on a regular and
consistent basis on our progress against the commitments that we made.
We will be providing you regular fortnightly updates as to our progress both in terms of the solutions for specific GSPs
and our review of wider strategic issues.
We intend to hold another forum on the 14
th
December where we will take you through our progress across the
programme of activities and give you the opportunity to ask us any questions.
However, in the meantime if you have any specific queries please let us know.
Kind regards

Solution implementation – Burwell GSP
6

Complete
On track
Delayed
Nature of Constraints:
Burwell constraints are thermal for both
import and export on SGTs, not impacted by stability constraint.
The CBA concluded that reinforcement remains the most cost
effective, long-term solution.
Agreed RDP Solution:
DERMS/Contractual solution agreed
following extensive stakeholder engagement
Battery solution agreed for Part 4 customers:
Import curtailment based on 3 x seasonal windows
Export curtailment based on 2 x seasonal window
This is an interim solution ahead of reinforcement works
.
Transmission Reinforcement works:
Attributable SGT reinforcement, 2028; no wider works
GSP Infrastructure Site/Connection Asset Site:
Planned infrastructure site Oct 2022
BCA Bi-lateral Connection Agreement
Solution implementation – Eaton Socon GSP
7
Complete
On track
Delayed
*delay in receiving the BCA and extended review
cycle accounts for revised dates as shown
Nature of Constraints:
Eaton Socon has export constraints relating
to an infrequent infeed loss and thermal capacity of upstream
circuits, this site is not impacted by EC5 stability constraint.
Reinforcement remains the most cost effective, long-term
solution.
Agreed Solution:
DERMS to manage against a new reverse power
limit on the SGTs
Generation solution agreed for Part 4 customers
Levels of export Curtailment based on revised reverse power limit
This is an interim solution ahead of reinforcement works
.
Transmission Reinforcement works:
No attributable works,
reconductoring and s/s re-build, 2028
GSP Infrastructure Site/Connection Asset Site:
Planned infrastructure site 2028
Progress Update – Bramford (EC5 boundary)
8
RDP working group has defined a number of options for the creation of
technical limits
ESO senior managers have met to discuss the issue and review/discuss
options and solutions – the recommendations formed part of a more
detailed ‘deep dive’ via an internal ESO workshop on Wednesday 24th Aug
Further points of clarity and points for consideration have been raised
which will now be taken forward and used as a basis for a joint workshop
with NGET in early September
Existing CUSC, SQSS* and BSC** Frameworks being taken into account and
used as a basis for discussion and solution optioneering to ensure
consistency and fair treatment of all Users
Next update on progress should be available to share post 15th
September after joint ESO/NGET Workshop

** Balancing and Settlement Code
Progress Update – Other GSPs
9
Rayleigh, Pelham, Wymondley, and Braintree (EC5)
Technical proformas for all four GSPs have been shared with UKPN/ESO and are currently
being reviewed. It is envisaged that the solution being developed for Bramford to manage
EC5 boundary constraint, will be scalable across each of this GSPs (plus any local constraint
management solution that may also be required)
Norwich and Walpole
As well as local constraints, Norwich and Walpole are also impacted by wider transmission
constraints similarly to the four GSPs above. Technical proformas for both GSPs are being
developed
Sundon
Sundon is outside of the EC5 impacts and requires significant upstream reconductoring of
overhead transmission lines. Technical proforma being developed and technical solution
similar to Eaton Socon under discussion
