Discussion on UL 7.5kHz Frequency Shift for n34 and n39 in 3GPP TSG-RAN WG4 Meeting #100-e
The approval document for Working Group on Dual-Site Selection (DSS) for n34 and n39 in CMCC, discussed in the 3GPP TSG-RAN WG4 Meeting #100-e, addresses the UL 7.5kHz shift agreements for different releases. The document outlines the mandatory nature of the shift for n34 and n39 in later releases, while also questioning any potential backward compatibility issues with Rel-15. Different proposals from companies like CMCC and Apple suggest varying approaches to the UL shift introduction, emphasizing the importance of compatibility and support for upcoming UE models in the market.

3GPP TSG-RAN WG4 Meeting # 100-e Electronic Meeting, August 16-27, 2021 R4-21xxxxx Approval Document for: WF on DSS for n34 and n39 CMCC
Way forward Tentative agreements in 1st round UL 7.5kHz shift is FFS (optional/mandatory) for n34 and n39 in Rel-15 and Rel- 16 UL 7.5kHz shift is mandatory for n34 and n39 from Rel-17 No requirements issue for DSS n34 and n39.
Way forward To be discussed in 2nd round Is there any backward compatibility issue to mandatory support UL 7.5KHz frequency shift from Rel-15 for n34 and n39? If the answer is NO, can we agree UL 7.5kHz shift is mandatory for n34 and n39 for Rel-15 and Rel-16 If the answer is YES, what exactly the backward compatibility issues are? And whether there is any solution to enable new Rel-15/16 UEs coming to the market mandatory support UL 7.5KHz shift?
References T-doc number Company Proposals / Observations Proposal 1: There is no backward compatibility issue to introduce UL 7.5KHz frequency shift from Rel-15 for n34 and n39 Proposal 2: it is proposed to mandatory support UL 7.5KHz frequency shift from Rel-15 for n34 and n39. CMCC R4-2112192 Proposal 1: UL 7.5kHz shift is kept optional in Rel-15 for TDD bands n34 and n39 (not preventing Rel-15 UEs from implementing and supporting it). Proposal 2: UL shift is mandatory for TDD bands n34 and n39 in later releases. Apple R4-2112346
