  2. Welcome to GCE History By the end of this course you will: Gain a unique insight into specific periods of History and by so doing develop a strong understanding of the modern world. Develop analytical and evaluative skills, particularly in relation to historical sources and differing interpretations of History. Apply an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of History and develop excellent written and verbal communication skills. All these skills will equip you to live in the modern world and to build a successful career.

  3. Course content History A Level: The themes you will study... Breadth Study: (Years 12&13) The Tudor 1485-1603. This is an exciting and dramatic period in the History of England. Full of larger than life characters, rebellions and beheadings. Depth Study: (Years 12&13) The Cold War 1945-1991. A time of division when the world was brought to the brink of World War III and yet somehow survived. Dig into the details of Vietnam, the Berlin wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis. An exciting opportunity to carry out your own enquiry into a debate from History that inspires you. Historical Investigation:

  4. Economics A Level: Assessment Exam board: Assessment: Percentage: 80% Detail: 2 exams sat at the end of Year 13. Paper 1: 1hr 30 mins (50%) Paper 2: 1 hr 30 mins (50%) A 3,500 word essay on a topic of your choosing. Examination Coursework 20%

Understanding and explaining different views of the past. Arguing your case both verbally and in writing. Essay writing skills Analytical and debating skills. The ability to select key points from reading. Expectations and workload 3 internal formal assessments completed per academic year 1to 2 homework assignments completed per week (essays or reading and note taking, presentations and research projects) High level of independent reading to support classroom learning An intrinsic interest in History.
