  4. Hiding the Seraphim Translations are not the only way people hide things from you. One other way is by telling you things over and over until you can t see anything else.

  5. Building the Church on the Right Rock

  6. Matthew 16:13-18 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is? And they said, Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (ESV. I changed hell to Hades )

  7. What did Simon Peter mean by Christ, the Son of the living God ? Psalm 2

  8. The BIG Question! Is Peter the Rock ?

  9. A Huge Evangelical Sigh of Relief From Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 425 (1995): Moved by the grace of the Holy Spirit and drawn by the Father, we believe in Jesus and confess: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." On the rock of this faith confessed by St. Peter, Christ built his Church. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1995, Par. 424)

  10. Peter as the Catholic Rock The Roman Catholics are diligently building on their belief that Peter is the rock on which Jesus would build the church. What are the rest of us doing to build on the rock of Peter s confession?

  11. Building on the Rock Peter Built on the Rock Acts 2:32-36 John built on the Rock John 20:31 All the apostles built on the Rock All of Acts

  12. Witnesses of the Resurrection Acts 1:21-22 Acts 2:32 Acts 3:15 Acts 4:33 Acts 5:30-32 Acts 10:40-41 Acts 13:30-31

  13. Why Witnesses of the Resurrection Romans 1:4

  14. As evangelicals, we have been building the church on the confession that Jesus died for our sins. The Catholics are building on the wrong rock because they are building on Peter As evangelicals we are building on the wrong rock because we are building on the wrong confession.

  15. Building on the Wrong Rock Evangelism Explosion If you were to die today, and God asked you why he should let you into heaven, what would you say? Does anyone expect the answer, Because I believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God ?

  16. Gods Sure Foundation

  17. 2 Timothy 2:19 God s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: The Lord knows those who are his, and, Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity. (ESV)

  18. No Other Foundation 1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (ESV)

  19. What does that mean? Matthew 7:24-25 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (ESV)

  20. Depart from iniquity and Hear and Obey are not typically what evangelicals think of when they say that Jesus is the foundation.

  21. Good Works

  22. A New Look at Good Works What is the purpose of The Scriptures? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Grace? Titus 2:11-12 Ephesians 2:8-10 The new birth? The atonement? Titus 2:13-14 How Important is this? Titus 3:8 Titus 2:15 No wonder we will be judged by our works

  23. Lets not forget The only thing we are commanded to do by the insignia on the foundation of God is to depart from iniquity. The only way to stand on the foundation of God, which can only be Jesus Christ, is to hear and obey him.

  24. Lets not forget The purpose of the Scriptures is to equip us for every good work. Grace instructs us to deny ungodliness and to live godly. We are created in Christ Jesus to do good works (prepared by God in advance for us). Jesus died to purchase a people who are zealous for good works. We will be judged for our works.

  25. Lets not forget We should declare these things with all authority, letting no one disregard us We are to insist that the people of God be careful to devote themselves to good works.

  26. Grace is NOT: a good excuse to avoid exhortation a reason to be embarrassed about emphasizing good works

  27. The Atonement

  28. Since were on the subject of works Romans 2:6-7 [God] will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. (ESV)

  29. Possible Reasons Romans 2:6-7 Might Not Work God is not merciful enough The judgment is not fair Ezekiel 18:21-29 Humans fail to patiently continue to do good works Romans 3 Romans 7

  30. Now that weve found the right problem: Can I show that this is really the problem that Jesus died and rose again to fix? Romans 7:15, 18, 24 Romans 8:3

  31. Lets really drive the point home Galatians 6:8-9: He who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap everlasting life. Therefore, do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not lose heart.
