Debate on Uniform Civil Code in India: Recent Developments
Allahabad High Court is considering petitions from interfaith couples seeking protection for their marriages under Article 21. The debate on implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India is sparked by the Prime Minister's recent call. UCC, outlined in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, aims at national integration and gender justice but faces opposition for potentially threatening religious freedom. Personal laws based on religious identity govern various communities in India, with Goa being the only state following a UCC. Join Shaurya for more insights.

UNIFORM CIVIL CODE : DEBATE Allahabad HC (AHC) has been hearing a bunch of petitions filed by interfaith couples, who contracted marriage upon conversion, seeking protection of their life, liberty and privacy guaranteed under Article 21, to live independently as man and woman without the interference of their family or others There has been a steep rise in inter-community, inter-caste and interfaith marriages and relationships which has exploded especially in the last few decades. Therefore the country requires a comprehensive Family Code which is in conformity with the changing times. AHC noted that the new anti-conversion law in UP, per se, does not prohibit interfaith marriage but the requirement of approval by the district authorities could make it tedious for such couples. RECENTLY HONOURABLE PM HAS TRGIGGERED A DEBATE ON IT BY GIVING A CALL FOR IMPLEMENTING UCC www.shauryassb.com shaurya_ssbtraining (instagram) 8368104529( M)
