Data Steward Definition Data Steward - A data steward is the key person from a designated institutional area (i.e. Human Resources, Registrar, Academic Affairs, IT, Medical School, MURC, etc.) who is responsible for the management, quality and accuracy of data elements (also known as critical data elements), both the content and metadata for their assigned area.
Data Steward Role & Responsibilities Data Steward: assure data quality, appropriate access, and maintain data definitions & validation tables. Stewards may delegate operational responsibilities to data custodians.
Data Custodian Definition Data Custodian - Data Custodians oversee data management functions related to the capture, maintenance and dissemination of data for a particular operational area. They are responsible for the general administration of user access to data within their area(s) of responsibility. Data Custodians are appointed by the respective Data Steward.
Data Custodian Role & Responsibilities Data Custodian: responsible for the day-to-day management of data integrity, security, and the processing of data in their area. Data quality assurance / compliance Maintain validation tables Metadata and the data dictionary Coordination & resolution of data issues Testing and change management

What is the Process Bug-D will send report of current data to stewards each semester (with instructions & data standards) Stewards will share with custodians as appropriate Stewards & custodians will review data and request corrections as needed using web form on HR website (see link at bottom of presentation or HR main site) All will follow up on requests until complete
