Textile design - At home project During the period of home learning you are going to have to complete a mini project by completing different tasks. You are going to be telling a story through your project and then end with designing something in the style of the chosen project title you have chosen. On the next few pages you will see the different topics in which you can choose to research and base your work on. The tasks can be completed on the computer on your stone soup learns google account and printed if you wish but others can be done on paper, if you do not have access to a computer.
Tip for finding artists: type into google- artists who paint the sea or seaside. Tip for finding photographers: type into google national geographic sea animal photographs. Tip for finding images and artists that show natural forms. Type natural forms into the search bar on google, or type in designers, artists or phographers inspired by natural forms. Topic 1: Natural forms
This can be done on the computer Page 1- Title page/moodboard Complete a title page based on your chosen title. You can use the internet and copy photos of the topic onto a blank page in google slides or you can design your own front page with your own drawing. You must then explain why you like the images you have chosen and how they are inspiring to you.
This can be done on the computer Page 2- Product Research You need to create a page on lots of different textiles products (around 20) that have been made inspired by your chosen theme. Copy the pictures into a new page on google slides. Add arrows to a selection of the images that you really like and explain why you like them.
This can be done on the computer Page 3- Artist/Designer Research Using the internet you need to find an artist or a designer that is inspired by your chosen topic. Use the tips on the topic pages on what you can google to help you find someone. You then need to create an artist response page based on the template below. Remember you must tell a story to the teacher on why you have chosen them and how do they inspire you. (think about colours, patterns, images as inspiration) What products from page 2 do you think would be a good product to make using this artist/designer?
This can be done on the computer Page 4+5 Decoration Method Research Choose 3 of the decoration methods below and find out how to do it, images of it and then your own version of how you could use it based on one of the images from your other research pages. - Block Print - Stencil print - Applique - Reverse applique - Batik - Silk painting - Hand embroidery
This can be done on the computer Page 6: Fabric Research Using fabric websites such as www.fabricland.co.uk you can look up the names of different fabrics. Put a picture of what the fabric looks like with its name next to it all over a page. Choose up to 10 fabrics that you like the look of.
Page 6: Pencil Design Ideas Create a page of about 6 initial pencil design ideas that have popped into your mind whilst you have been researching if you are stuck remember to look at your research pages to give you inspiration- are there any images or patterns that you could use on one of the products from the product research page? The designs must have a link to your research/artist. These drawings do not need to be coloured in but do label the colours you are thinking. Remember to add annotations (labels) and your thought process so the teacher knows exactly what you are thinking and how it links to your research/artist/designer
Page 7: Developed design ideas You need to then choose three of your initial ideas and develop them by adapting the design. There has to be a creative change and not just a change of colour to the original design. Add colour these designs. Also add annotations on fabric choices, decoration methods. Remember to annotate to the teacher what your changes are, why you made them, how you think it makes it better and how the designs link to your research/artist/designer.
This can be done on the computer Page 8: Final Design Create a final design based on one of your developed ideas using paint or other drawing computer programmes if you have them (you can hand draw it if you do not have a computer). You need to be able to show different angles of your final product, it must have colour, annotations on the sizes, fabric choices and decoration methods. Remember to have the final sentences on why you have chosen this design, what changes you make, how it relates to your research/designer/artist.
