Christopher Columbus: Italian Explorer of America
Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, was the first European to discover America in 1492. Despite thinking he had reached Asia, he actually came upon a new continent between Europe and Asia. His voyages were financed by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Columbus made four journeys to America, but faced challenges, lost favor, and died in poverty. His famous ships were the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.
