  1. Christian Growth From Salvation to Maturity

  2. Intro Our spiritual journey with God can be likened to that of natural birth. When the Holy Spirit comes into the heart of a human being and destroys the nature of the devil, planting the nature of God there; such person is born again. However, he/she is born a spiritual baby and as growth is expected of a natural baby so also is spiritual growth necessary for anyone that is born again. It is a tragedy for a Christian to be lacking in spiritual development. God wants us to grow but we have to show strong desire for growth. 2Peter 1:2.

  3. Misplaced Priorities. Not knowing what is really important. Mt. 6:22-23 Lack of Self-control. Not having control over appetite, emotions, SEX, sleep etc. Characteristics of Babies Desire for instant gratification. Not being able to resist the urge to do what feels good at the moment Self-centredness and ignorance. 1 Corinthians 13:11

  4. Principles of Christian Growth Effort, diligence, and discipline are absolutely necessary for growth. It doesn t just happen by chance. 2Peter 1: 5-8, 1 Corinth 9:24-27 God is at the centre all spiritual growth; it is not all about us. Isaiah 61:11, Eph. 1:4, 1 Cor. 3:7 Spiritual growth is not instantaneous; it is a process that takes time. Luke 2:52, 1:80, Matt. 13:31-32 Spiritual growth depends on an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. John 15:1-7, Gal. 5:22-25

  5. Spiritual growth is not measured by what you know; it is demonstrated by behaviour. Matt. 22:37-40 Spiritual growth relates to every aspect of our lives. Matt 3:2,8; Rom 12:1-2, Luke 2:52 Growth happens most naturally within a close social context. It takes relationships to grow. Deut. 6:6- 9, Acts2:42-47, Eph. 4:11- 16 Cont d Significant growth occurs within the context of frustration, suffering, or challenge. (Romans 8:18-27, 2Thess 1:4-7, Philippians 1: 19) Spiritual growth is not solely based on bible study; it takes participation in other spiritual activities to attain sound maturity. Spiritual growth happens by developing growth habits. Heb. 11:1, 1Peter 2:2
