Task 1- To solve a riddle and link it to stereotyping Solve the riddle below A man and his son were out walking, they were attacked by a mugger, the mugger escaped, the boy was hurt and left on the ground, the man was stabbed and died, the boy was taken to a police station, the detective took one look at him and exclaimed That boy is my son! . How can this be? Answer-

How can this be? Hopefully you all understood that the detective was the boys mother! Why might some people not get this riddle as quickly? How does this riddle link to stereotyping?

Task 2- To define words linked with stereotyping and understand why they are wrong Prejudice Prejudice is when you pre-judge someone or a group of people. Stereotype Stereotypes are a commonly held public belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. This can be done through the simplified representation of character, appearances and beliefs. Discrimination Discrimination is when you act on a prejudice. It s treating someone or a group of people in a different way because of who they are.
Task 2- To define words linked with stereotyping and understand why they are wrong Come up with your own example of this Why is stereotyping harmful? How can stereotyping lead to prejudice and discrimination?
