NEW YEAR'S New Year's Day is a public holiday celebrated on January 1, all over the world. Today, New Year's Day is perhaps the most famous public holiday, often celebrated with fireworks as the New Year begins in every time zone.
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY Martin Luther King Jr. Day (often referred to as MLK Day) is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. on the third Monday of January each year. Born in 1929, King's actual birthday is January 15 (which in 1929 fell on a Tuesday). The holiday is similar to the holidays established under the Monday Holiday Act. The first Monday for this holiday is January 15th and the last is January 21st.
AUSTRALIA DAY Australia Day is the National holiday of Australia. It is celebrated on 26 January and marks the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet of British ships at Port Jackson in New South Wales and the raising of the flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1788.
PRESEREN DAY PRE EREN DAY, CELEBRATION OF SLOVENIAN CULTURE, IS A HOLIDAY CELEBRATED IN SLOVENIA ON FEBRUARY 8. IT MARKS THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF SLOVENIAN NATIONAL POET FRANJE PRE EREN ON 8 FEBRUARY 1849 AND IS A CELEBRATION OF SLOVENIAN CULTURE. IT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1945 TO INCREASE THE CULTURAL AWARENESS AND SELF- CONFIDENCE OF SLOVENIANS, AND IN 1991 IT WAS DECLARED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY.
DAY OF THE SUN The Day of the Sun is an annual public holiday and holiday in North Korea, celebrated on April 15, the birthday of Kim Il Sung, the Founder and "Eternal President of North Korea". It is the most important national holiday in the country and is considered the North Korean equivalent of Christmas.
EASTER The Christian Easter, or Lambri, and especially the Resurrection of Christ, is the most important celebration of Christianity. Symbolizing the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox.
May Day Labor Day is celebrated on the first of May. It's the established celebration of the Chicago workers' uprising. In May 1886 labor unions in Chicago rioted demanding an 8-hour workday and better working conditions. In Greece, it was established as a holiday by Ioannis Metaxas, on April 7, 1937. It is also celebrated as the day of flowers and Spring. The day has been established as a labor strike and all services and businesses remain closed.
VICTORY DAY Victory Day is a holiday celebrated in Russia and other countries of the world on May 9. It began to be celebrated in the 15 republics of the Soviet Union, after the signing of the German surrender pact on the night of May 8, 1945 (Moscow time it was after midnight on May 9). The holiday began to be celebrated in 1945, and became a non-working holiday in 1965, and this only affected certain Soviet republics.
MEMORIAL DAY Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. From 1868 to 1970, it was observed on May 30.
CHRISTMAS Christmas is the annual Christian celebration of the birth of Christ. It is celebrated in all Christian countries, on December 25 in the Gregorian calendar, and on January 7 in the Julian calendar.
