In the scriptures and the General Handbook, principles are outlined for supporting those in need, promoting self-reliance, and ministering to individuals facing temporal and emotional challenges. The core work of the Church emphasizes caring for others, uniting families, and inviting all to receive the gospel. Stake council members are encouraged to identify needs in the community, convert them into actionable steps, and support ward leaders in teaching and training. The pattern for building self-reliance involves assessing short-term needs, fostering long-term self-reliance, and offering emotional support. Church assistance is provided incrementally to prioritize self-sufficiency within families and communities.
