Our mission is to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke The Facts Heart Disease is the #1 killer of Americans 1 in 3 American children are overweight or obese Childhood obesity is now the #1 health concern among parents in the U.S., topping drug abuse and smoking. French fries are the most common source of vegetables consumed by children & 25% of their vegetable intake. 61% of children ages 9-13 aren t physically active outside of school. 1 / 100 children are born with a Congenital Heart Defect Today s children are not expected to live as long as their parents - the first time ever for an entire generation s life expectancy to drop.
Program Elements The CPR in Schools Training Kit empowers students to learn the core skills of CPR in under 30 minutes. The Kit contains everything needed to learn CPR, AED skills, and choking relief in school classroom settings. The easy-to-use kit is designed specifically for the needs of the school educators, and it s portable, allowing for convenient movement from classroom to classroom and easy storage. The CPR in Schools Training Kit was developed for educators, school nurses, or even student leaders to train groups of 10 students at once in a school setting. The kit can also be used to train school faculty, staff, parents, volunteer and community members to extend the lifesaving skills into the community The CPR in Schools training kit uses the latest science through the Instructional DVD and the Mini Anne Plus manikin. They both reflect science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, including an emphasis on Hands-Only CPR for adult sudden cardiac arrest.
Jump Rope, Hoops For Heart & The Great Replay Jump Rope, Hoops For Heart & The Great Replay are national education and service learning projects founded by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators). These programs engage students with physical activity while empowering them to improve their health and help others with heart-health issues. When kids develop unhealthy behaviors and unfavorable risk factors during childhood, they are more likely to continue them as adults. Our school programs help children form heart healthy habits and reflect the American Heart Association s commitment to reaching our goal for the nation by the year 2020: To improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent, while reducing deaths caused from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.
