Bosnian War: Tragic Conflict and Dayton Agreement
The Bosnian War, which took place from April 1992 to December 1995, resulted in over 100,000 civilian deaths and mass displacement of millions. The conflict involved atrocities such as ethnic cleansing and widespread use of rape as a weapon of war. The Dayton Agreement of December 1995 established the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, along with an international peacekeeping presence. Despite the end of the war, Bosnia and Herzegovina still faces challenges of corruption, weak economy, organized crime, and divisions along ethnic lines, with nationalist parties advocating for further reorganization. The country is recognized as a potential EU candidate.
