Indian Health Service Portland Area Regional Specialty Referral Centers Background Why Regional Specialty Referral Centers? Need Improved Access! Barriers Include: Specialty Provider Capacity Limits on Medicaid/Medicare Patients Many AI/AN Patients Are Not PRC Eligible High Costs for Accessing Out of Network Specialty Care Services Long Appointment Wait Times Lack of Culturally Appropriate Care Difficult to Assure Continuity of Care with Primary Care Provider
Indian Health Service Portland Area Regional Specialty Referral Centers Background What Do Regional Referral Centers Provide? More Access! Access in Addition to Currently Available Options (Does not Replace Existing Options) Culturally Appropriate Care AI/AN Patients Are the Service Priority Improved Coordination with Primary Care Provider Back Home Extended Reach Through Tele-Medicine No Cost to PRC For Services Provided at the Regional Facilities (3rdParty Will be Billed) Proposed Locations Improve Recruitment/Retention Opportunities for Specialists and Ready Access to Tertiary Care if Needed Combined User Populations Provide Sufficient Workload to Support Many Specialty Care Types
Indian Health Service Portland Area Regional Specialty Referral Centers Background What Services Could a Regional Facility Provide? The Demonstration Project Will Help Determine. The Current Proposal Includes: General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Urology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Audiology, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Endontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Lab Services, and Diagnostic Imaging.
