3. BEZMIALEM VAKIF UNIVERSITY- ESTABLISHED IN 2010 In 1845, while Istanbul was struggling with epidemics, Bezmialem Sultan, established the first hospital in Ottoman history. The most advanced medical care of the time was provided to those in need, free of charge. The principles of Bezmialem Sultan continued under the roof of Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU) which was founded in 2010 and it still carries this historical signet with pride.
