Monday: Building Ensemble

An ENSEMBLE is defined as
a group of supporting entertainers (such as actors, dancers, and singers) in a theatrical
production.

The members of an ensemble develop a feeling of being one; and feel supported, trusted, and listened to by the group.
An Ensemble is important in theater for the following reasons:
· You are a part of something; a theater community.
· You build some pretty strong friendships.
· You get to watch and learn from others.
· The whole cast is essentially a sports team.

To achieve this, you must get to know your peers (or those in the cast). We will constantly be building our ensemble (our class
community), however, Mondays will specifically be for getting to know your peers. So, staying in your seat, talk to those around you
and ask how their weekends were.
Write down one thing (on your bellwork sheet) you learned about a peer today
.
If you are absent, write about yourself or learn about a family member!

Tuesday: Video/Song

On Tuesdays we will watch a video or song pertaining to Theater and write about what we saw and heard.
Today we will watch a video demonstrating facial expressions. Watch:

Wednesday: Warm up

Warming up is important for an actor/actress. It helps you be physically and vocally ready for a performance so you do not
injure yourself. We will learn 1 vocal and 1 physical warm up each Wednesday whether you are performing or not. I suggest
when you are getting ready to perform run through some of your favorite warm ups.
I will typically choose 1-2 helpers to lead the class through the warm ups. For the first day, I will do it with you. First stand up at
your seat.

Now sit back down and write down whether you liked these warm ups or not. Don’t forget to say why you liked or disliked them.

Thursday: Writing Prompt

Thursdays will be reserved for writing prompts. This will usually be based off what we learned for the week or it will be theater
related that gets you thinking.
Survey
Answer these questions in complete sentences:
What previous experiences have you had with theater? Have you had any classes or seen any plays/musicals?
What do you think of when you hear the words drama and theater?
What do you hope to learn from this class that will help you grow as a drama student, performer, and a person?

Friday: Game

On Fridays we will play ensemble games to celebrate the end of the week!!

We are going to play the game “one duck, two feet, quack.”

How to play: we will go in order (I will tell you the order in a minute) and everyone will say one
word at a time. The point of the game is to keep adding ducks which then results in more feet
and quacks. Example: one duck, two feet, quack; two ducks, four feet, quack, quack; three
ducks….See the pattern? If someone messes up and does not say the correct next word, we
have to start over!

At the end,
write down what we could learn from this game
(why would I make you play such
a weird/silly game?).

here is a link to see the game in action for those that are absent.

  3. Tuesday: Video/Song On Tuesdays we will watch a video or song pertaining to Theater and write about what we saw and heard. Today we will watch a video demonstrating facial expressions. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0ouAnmsO1Y This is practice for facial expressions. Try copying what you see, then answer the following questions on your bellwork sheet: What was the hardest expression to make? What was the easiest? How can this help with your acting?

  4. Wednesday: Warm up Warming up is important for an actor/actress. It helps you be physically and vocally ready for a performance so you do not injure yourself. We will learn 1 vocal and 1 physical warm up each Wednesday whether you are performing or not. I suggest when you are getting ready to perform run through some of your favorite warm ups. I will typically choose 1-2 helpers to lead the class through the warm ups. For the first day, I will do it with you. First stand up at your seat. The first warm up is the Shake Down. Start off by shaking your right hand for 5 seconds while counting down (5, 4, 3, 2, 1), then shake your left hand while counting down, then your right foot, and finally your left foot. Then go back to your right hand and shake for 4 seconds while counting down (4, 3, 2, 1), then do the same with your left hand and so on. See the pattern? Go until you just shake each appendage for one second. The second warm up is a tongue twister. You will say the tongue twister 5 times together as a class (part of ensemble training!). This means you do not go faster or slower than the leader. The leader will set the pace and slowly get faster and faster. The tongue twister is: 1. 2. guy gargoyle, girl gargoyle Now sit back down and write down whether you liked these warm ups or not. Don t forget to say why you liked or disliked them.
