  2. General Subjects General Subjects General Subjects are suited to students who are interested in pathways beyond senior secondary schooling that lead to tertiary studies. Results in General subjects contribute to the awarded of a QCE and can contribute to an ATAR. Students will need high level underpinning skills in literacy, numeracy and 21stcentury skills to be successful in these subjects. Students must have undertaken Investigating Global Connections in year 10 and achieved a grade of a B to enter this subject.

  3. Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions Are the pre-requisites important for this subject? YES, for a few reasons. It is possible to be successful in Ancient History without having completed IGC, but you will have to do a lot of catch up work to gain background knowledge and skills in analysis, interpretation and historical writing. There is a large amount of reading and writing necessary to be successful. If you cannot read and comprehend texts with some speed, you will find it difficult to complete your research tasks.

The general topics covered include: Archaeology Mungo Man Viking Funerary Practices and beliefs Hatshepsut Alexander the Great Pompeii and Herculaneum The Medieval Crusades Rome: The Civil War and breakdown of the Republic Augustus Each year the year 12 class will have the final unit topic set by QCAA for the external exam.

The final task in Year 12 is an external exam on a topic set by QCAA The external exam is in a short responses to sources format. Each assessment item in Year 12 is worth 25% of the year s grade.

  6. Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions What sort of tasks are there? Combination or Short Response Exam A set of seen and unseen sources are supplied to students. They must respond to a set of questions [usually 4] about the sources. One of the questions is usually a more extended answer. Total of 800 1000 words, 2 hours. Extended Essay Response Exam A set of seen and unseen sources are supplied along with a key question. Students must respond in an essay of 800 100 words, using the sources provided. 2 hours. Independant Source Investigation a project which develops research questions, locates, analyses and evaluates sources and explains how these sources would be useful in answering the key question. Total of 1500 2000 words. Historical Essay an extended response to an historical question that develops an hypothesis and supports it with an historical argument. The essay interprets and evaluates historical sources that support the argument. Total of 1500 2000 words.

Team trivia games, turning historical events into board games like Ancient Art-opoly, class debates and discussions, etc. We have the chance to talk about events that occurred thousands of years ago and how they have created history and impacted today s society. We watch videos and tell stories, everyone brings their own experiences to share. Together we try to make sense of the world and what happened in it.
