  3. Ministry of Energy and Water(MEW) Policy points on Climate change Currently, Afghanistan is heavily dependent on power imports. This exposes the country to significant uncertainties and tariff risks, when the PPAs with the neighbouring countries come up for renewal every year. The domestic generation capacity in the country is only about 600 MW, which is sufficient to meet only 30% of the total demand of the grid connected consumers. Remaining 70% demand is met by importing power from neighbouring countries namely Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Iran costing Afghanistan approximately USD 220 Million (2016-2017)3. The major issue is that clean energy play important role and hence MEW policy emphasizes on Clean energy and domestic generation from Hydro, Solar, Wind, Geothermal, biomas and bio-gas resources . It could contribute to the protected and clean environment and a lovely globe at large scale.
