AB 1282, a legislation passed in late 2017, established the multi-agency Transportation Permitting Task Force to streamline the process for developing transportation projects. The task force aims to reduce permit processing time, set reasonable deadlines for approvals, and enhance the certainty of permit approval requirements. Initial successes have been seen with 39 recommendations in progress, including high-priority recommendations, early engagement processes, cross-agency staffing, outreach efforts, and an implementation workplan. Work is underway to implement the organizational framework, task force charter, communication plan, web portal design, change management framework, and advance mitigation recommendations.
