The Academic Resources and Computing Committee (ARCC) for 2020-2021 allocated resources, reviewed funding criteria, assessed faculty and student computer needs, promoted software access, maintained communication with IT entities, investigated new training funding lines, and worked on various IT-related projects. The committee also managed ARCC and Dee Family Technology Grants, funded multiple projects, and adapted to the Covid-19 pandemic for increased effectiveness.

  1. Academic Resources and Computing Committee (ARCC) Charges for 2020-2021 Allocate ARCC resources, including Dee Family Technology Grant funds, using consistent, objective, fair and reasonable criteria. (Ongoing) Review funding criteria and procedures for ARCC and Dee Family Technology for possible revision or clarification. (Ongoing) Assess faculty and possibly student computer needs, solicit faculty input and lobby for faculty computer-related interests. Update college/departmental WSU software usage & needs document and disseminate this information to chairs and deans. Coordinate with student senate to assess student IT-related needs and promote knowledge of software access.(Ongoing)

Academic Resources and Computing Committee (ARCC) Charges for 2020-2021 Maintain close communication with other IT related entities on campus (for example, WSU Online and the IT governance council) in order to: Examine product implementation in computer labs and assess faculty input to determine if some products could be used on a campus-wide basis. Review (with computing support) and assess faculty concerns regarding standards and policies for hardware and software purchases. Provide the faculty point of view in regard to the review, discuss and communication campus wide, of the security policies, procedures, and practices to protect student, faculty, and staff data. Provide faculty input regarding new software implementation. (Ongoing) Create a structure that allows ongoing collaboration between ARCC and the IT Governance Council. (Ongoing) Investigate the possibility of creating a new training funding line under ARCC. (Ongoing)

Academic Resources and Computing Committee (ARCC) Charges for 2020-2021 Additional Charges Work with IT to ensure that textbooks that have the LMS software attached may or may not be integrated into Canvas. Develop a system to ensure that faculty gives IT enough advanced notification to implement this software into Canvas before the semester starts. Look for new ways the committee can increase its effectiveness due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Work more closely with WSU online and TLF to ensure that our goals are in alignment. Ensure that the language of generated policies is inclusive. This includes tracking demographic data for grant applications. Discuss revising the rubric to foster more equitable and inclusive classrooms.

  4. ARCC and Dee Grants ARCC grants: Faculty-led initiatives related to the innovative use of technology in educational settings. Dee Family Technology Grants: Faculty projects using technology in research or applying technology to pedagogy.

Grants Funded Fall 2020 We were able to fund 4 Dee Grants and 10 ARCC grants received with some $$ left over Dee Grant total: $9,285.12 ARCC Grant total: $43,968.55 There were a wide range of project funded from training, classroom equipment, online course support hardware/software, and research-specific hardware and software.

Grants Funded Spring 2021 We were able to fund 9 Dee Grants and 12 ARCC grants received with some $$ left over Dee Grant total: $46,953.00 ARCC Grant total: $109,372.83 There were a wide range of project funded from training, classroom equipment, online course support hardware/software, and research-specific hardware and software.

Funding criteria and procedures for ARCC and Dee grants All Dee and ARCC proposals were scored by committee members using a rubric which included the following sections: Educational Experience 0-35 points Innovation 0-25 points Necessity 0-10 points Dissemination 0-10 points Evaluation 0-10 Support 0-10 Diversity 0-10 The committee agreed to include a diversity section to the scoring rubric which contains language in the scoring rubric that is more inclusive for diverse populations.

  13. Provide faculty input regarding new software implementation. ARCC has endeavors to remain in contact with IT and other entities to discuss changes and new software implementation. ARCC has worked with Kaycee Paskins on the Chitester committee to provide faculty input for changing platforms from Chitester to Canvas for examination assessment. Faculty dashboard changes migrating from Banner 8 to Banner 9. Changes were made to screens such as: class role, teaching schedule, input final grades, etc.. Linda DuHadway (ARCC committee member) worked with Peter Waite and provided feedback on the new screens.

  14. Textbooks that have the LMS software attached integrated into Canvas. WSU Online is working on a process to ensure that product integrations in Canvas are accessible, secure, supported, and FERPA compliant. They have developed a Canvas Integration Request Form which will soon be available on their website. This request form will ask a few basic questions about the integration you are looking to use in your Canvas course and includes a link to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Scoring Rubric. The MOU will need to be signed for new integrations and includes several University policies that are relevant to Canvas integrations. The scoring rubric will be filled out by WSU Online based on documentation provided by the integration's vendor and is meant to guide next steps. In some cases, Purchasing or the Wildcat Bookstore will need to be involved before the integration is enabled.

  15. Look for new ways the committee can increase its effectiveness due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed how many faculty teach their courses. Specifically, teaching and interactions are now exclusively online. It may be beneficial for ARCC to partner more closely with WSU online, and perhaps even TLF to work to better serve and represent faculty needs.

  16. Ensure that the language of generated policies is inclusive During the last academic year, changes were made to the Dee and ARCC scoring rubrics. The committee agreed to include a diversity section to the scoring rubric which contains language in the scoring rubric that is more inclusive for diverse populations. Under the diversity section the scoring rubric included the statement, How does the project promote the inclusion and benefit of diverse groups? Proposals were given 0-10 extra points based on the following criteria: 10 - Proposal clearly addresses the involvement, benefit, or inclusion of a variety of diverse groups 5 - Proposal addresses limited involvement, benefit, or inclusion of a variety of diverse groups 0 - Proposal is limited and does not benefit a select variety of diverse groups

  17. Recommendations for new charges. Tim Herzog (Past Faculty Senate Chair) suggested that the ARCC could be a place where issues regarding software decisions could be brought up and discussed by WSU software support personnel. Tim said that in the past the path has been to ask a few random faculty members. Tim Herzog would like the faculty senate and the ARCC to be present and take a more active role for both representing and communicating the reasons when these software issues are made. Due to Covid-19/Delta Variant/Vaccination requirements the ARCC should work to ensure that faculty have needed hardware, software, and training to teach in an online/F2F setting.

  18. Suggestions for new directions the committee may pursue and ways in which the committee can increase its effectiveness. Create an online application form for the Dee and ARCC grants. Along with the online application format the following are suggestions for improvement: Clearer instructions on the proposal application forms. Staggered deadlines for specific people on the application: chair, dean IT, etc. Update the Dee scoring excel spreadsheet with correct formulas.
