  3. Resume Importance Resumes are very important as when you apply for a job, you mainly first submit your resume to that organization. Organizations use it to determine if you are a valuable candidate. Law schools, medical schools, and other similar programs use it along with your transcript and other relevant test scores

  4. Tips and Tricks

  5. Resume Tips Resumes are summaries, not stories of a person. Resumes only get you to an interview. It is up to you from there on if you want to get the job. Try to keep it as short as possible while including everything needed. Most companies only skim your resume, so if it s too long they re more likely to skip over parts. If you re submitting your resume for a job in a specific field, tailor your resume to fit the job s description.

  6. General Tips to Remember Use a clean, consistent design throughout your resume to make it look neat. Double/triple check for spelling errors. Frequently update your resume page as you experience more. Use your University Career Center as a resource to help polish your resume. Know your Resume; meaning make sure you know everything that is listed there. Sometimes, if an interviewer sees something that they re unsure about, they will ask you about it.

  7. Format Most favored format is reverse chronological order . More recent items in each category come first. Use a clean, easy to read font. Most popular fonts include Calibri, Cambria, and Helvetica. Margins can be extended up to 0.5 inches, if necessary.
