Eng. 101 Unit 4- Lesson 4- Study and Writing Skills OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will have: discussed how to work out the meaning of unknown words. studied and practised three different techniques to help guess the meaning of unknown words. distinguished between formal and informal uses of greetings, opening phrases and endings. written an email to a friend.

From the following strategies. Which one do you use when you read a word that you do not know? Circle it/highlight it. Skip it. Try to guess the meaning while reading. Stop reading and search for it in a dictionary. When repeated twice or more and you can t understand the meaning search for it in a dictionary. When you feel that the word is important, and you can t understand the meaning, you look it up in the dictionary. Ask for the help of your teacher and classmates. Other.
