  2. Environmental Relating to the natural world and the impact of human activity on its condition. Theme: Democracy Question (environmental lens): Do democratic governments do a better job protecting the environment than non-democratic governments?

  3. Scientific Based on or characterized by the methods and principals of science Theme: Democracy Question (scientific lens): Should democratic governments prevent stem-cell research from being carried out?

  4. Economic Related to the economy, money, distribution of gods and services, etc. Theme: Democracy Question (economic lens): What is the relationship between capitalism and democracy?

  5. Political and Historical Related to government or the public affairs of the country / concerning history and past events. Theme: Democracy Question (political and historical lens): How has democracy changed over the centuries?

  6. Artistic and Philosophical Relating to art or large questions about knowledge, reality and existence. Theme: Democracy Question (artistic and philosophical lens): How has democracy shaped the civic values of American society?
