  2. Heres what our current students think of their course: Its not as hard as you might think it will be. Definitely one of my favouriteoptions.Goodluck! There are a lot of things you need to learn, but it exposes you to global issues, and teaches you a bit more about how our planet works and it is a really good subject to take to learn about our world. I really enjoy Geography and the topics that we cover are really relatable and interesting. Geography is really interesting to study, it s a good option to choose I enjoy Geography because it allows me to relate to current situations and discuss enjoyable topics. You learn about real life examples.

  3. Heres what our current students think of their course: There s a lot to learn. Most things are fairly straightforward and it s a case of remembering it. Each topic is interesting in different ways making for continual interest throughout the course as you learn about the world around you. Interesting, enjoyable lessons It s taught me about the inner working of the world. P.S. All hail Elliot! It s different to KS3 geography and it is fun

Geography at RGS Our Geography department is highly successful and encourages you to gain the skills necessary to further your knowledge and understanding and perform well in a variety of tasks that will help you understand the world. Essentially, we have everything in place to help you achieve your potential.

  5. Facts you should know: Our Geography students consistently achieve around 90% A*-C!! Geography is one of the most popular optional GCSE s around the world. Geography links well with history, business studies and languages, as well as specialist science and arts subjects, so it is ideal for a balanced curriculum.

  7. What will you study in Geography? Geography enables us to find answers to questions such as: Is internet shopping to blame for the closure of High Street shops? How does population growth cause the deserts to grow in Africa? How can tourists help to save the tropical rainforests? Why did a hurricane cause crime to increase in New Orleans? Were the 2016 Olympics a good thing for the people of Rio de Janeiro? How might a snowman help to stop floods?

  8. Will Geography be useful to you in the future? Geography will help you be more aware of everyday situations and issues faced by the people who live around you, in other parts of the UK, and across the world. Geography is a highly topical subject, ever- changing as world events unfold. When you see an article about a potential cataclysmic super-volcanic eruption in the USA, then your Geography course will help you make sense of what is going on. Geography will make you an aware and better-informed citizen.

  9. How is the course assessed? GCSE Geography is assessed at the end of Year 11 in the form of three exam papers: Paper 1 (1hr 45 mins) 45% of GCSE Paper 2 (1hr 30 mins) 27.5% of GCSE Paper 4 (1 hr 30 mins) 27.5% of GCSE Regular internal assessments will also be used to monitor student progress over the two year course.

  15. Qualities needed for success, skills developed: Students who have an interest in the world around them and how and why it is changing. Students who enjoy field work and the challenge of completing a geographical enquiry. Skills Developed: A broad range of knowledge and skills that are useful in any job or future studies. Having a sense of place and an understanding of issues in the world today is essential in our daily lives.
