The document discusses a bug fix proposal for the acknowledgment rule in multi-link scenarios in the IEEE 802.11 standard. It addresses issues related to signaling QoS Data frames, Ack Policy differentiation, and the transmission of data and acknowledgments on the same link. Examples are provided to illustrate the proposed modifications for better protocol adherence.

  2. doc.: IEEE 802.11-20/0432r0 Mar 2020 Motivation Below motion is passed in Jan 2020 IEEE meeting Motion 63: The receive status of QoS Data frames of a TID received on a link shall be signaled on the same link and may be signaled on other available link(s) The QoS Data with Ack Policy of No Ack doesn t need to be acknowledged, and should be excluded from the rules; Current rule is too strict in some case when the Ack Policy is Block Ack; (examples showed in next slides) Modification is proposed to fix above issues. 3. doc.: IEEE 802.11-20/0432r0 Mar 2020 Example 1 An example shown in below figure BA1 contains the acknowledgement of MSDU with sequence number 1-20, and all corresponding bits are set to 1; BAR2 set SSN=21 to move the WinStartB to 21; In this example, the MSDUs with SN 11-20 already be acknowledged in link 1, and can not be acknowledged in link 2 where they are transmitted because of the shift of WinStartB; The example is reasonable, but doesn t follow the rule that data and acknowledgement shall be transmitted on the same link. SN:1-10 SSN=21 SSN=1 SN:21-30 Link 1 BAR2 BA2 A-MPDU1 BAR1 BA1 A-MPDU2 SN:31-40 SN:11-20 A-MPDU3 A-MPDU4 Link 2 Submission Slide 3 Yunbo Li (Huawei)

  4. doc.: IEEE 802.11-20/0432r0 Mar 2020 Example 2 Another example shown in below figure BA1 contains the acknowledgement of MSDU with sequence number 1-10, and all corresponding bits are set to 1; BAR2 set SSN=11 to move the WinStartB to 11; In this example, the MSDUs with SN 1-10 already be acknowledged in link 1, so it doesn t need to be acknowledged in link2 once more; The acknowledgement of MSDU 1-10 can not be transmitted in link2 anymore because BAR2 shift the WinStartB to 11; The example is reasonable, but doesn t follow the rule that data and acknowledgement shall be transmitted on the same link. 5. doc.: IEEE 802.11-20/0432r0 Mar 2020 Proposed Modification The receive status of a MSDU or A-MSDU in a QoS Data frames of a TID received on a link shall be signaled on the same link unless at least one of following conditions is true: The receive status of the MSDU or A-MSDU has already be signaled in other available link(s) with corresponding bit in the BA be set to 1; The corresponding Ack Policy of the MSDU or A-MSDU is set to No Ack. The receive status of a MSDU or A-MSDU in a QoS Data frames of a TID received on a link may be signaled on other available link(s) if the Ack Policy is not set to No Ack. Submission Slide 5 Yunbo Li (Huawei)

  6. doc.: IEEE 802.11-20/0432r0 Mar 2020 Straw Poll 1 Do you agree to modify acknowledgement rule in multi-link as below: The receive status of a MSDU or A-MSDU in a QoS Data frames of a TID received on a link shall be signaled on the same link unless at least one of following conditions is true: The receive status of the MSDU or A-MSDU has already be signaled in other available link(s) with corresponding bit in the BA be set to 1; The corresponding Ack Policy of the MSDU or A-MSDU is set to No Ack. The receive status of a MSDU or A-MSDU in a QoS Data frames of a TID received on a link may be signaled on other available link(s) if the Ack Policy is not set to No Ack. Yes No Abstain Submission Slide 6 Yunbo Li (Huawei)
