  2. KODAIKANAL KodaiKanal is in the hills of the Dindigul district in the state of TamilNadu, India. Its name in Tamil - Gift of Forest Referred as the Princess of Hill stations

  3. Earlier residents were Palaiyar tribal people. References to kodaikanal are found inTamil Sangam literature of earlier Christian era. Modern Kodai Kanal established by American Christian missionaries and British bureaucrats in 1845. Many Christian churches, Hindu Temples, Muslim Mosques are there. There is an active community of Tibetan Buddhist refugees. Three major medical hospitals are well- suited for basic needs of people. It is renowned for the KodaiKanal International School. MotherTherasa University is devoted to exclusively women s issues. Several clubs and civil society organizations operating for social, charitable and environmental goals.   5. Sits on a plateau above the southern escarpment of the upper palani hills at 2,133metres, (6,998ft)between the Parappar and Gundar Valleys.   6. Predominantly run by tourism. Infrastructure of town changes every year in preparation for the peak tourist season. Roads are converted into one-way during season. Hotels are fully booked during season. Nearby cities enjoy year -round tourism. 50 Hotels are catering to all categories of tourists. Seven retail bank branches are function. The cosmopolitan nature of Kodai is evident on Anna Salai, the main business street, Where it is common to see local villagers and people from other parts of India.   8. 1,600 ft from the bus stand, is an artificial, roughly star shaped 60 acres lake built in 1863. Recognized as popular landmark and tourist attraction. Rowboats and pedals can be hired. Horses and bicycles can be hired beside the lake. KODAIKANAL LAKE

  9. It is a wonderfully maintained 20.5 acres a baotanical garden. Buit in 1908 by a forest officer. There is a 1857 Eucalyptus trees and Bodhi tree are which adds religious significance to the park. The park organizes horticulture exhibits and flower shows every summer. KODAIKANAL BRYANT PARK

  10. Constructed by Lt.Coaker in 1872. Paved pedestrian path running along the edge of steep slopes on the southern side of kodai. The walk winding around Mount Nebo, Starts in front of the Van Allen Hospital providing Stunning panoramic view of the plains. On a clear day one can view as far as Dolphin's Nose southeast ,the Valley of Pambar river in the south-east, Periyakulam town and even the city of Madurai. KODAIKANAL COAKER S WALK

  12. Green Valley View Formerly called Suicide Point and near the golf course ,has an excellent panoramic view of the plains and sheer drop of 1,500metres overlooking the Vaigai Dam to the south.   13. PINE FOREST- In 1906, Byrant started pine plantation. SHENBAGANUR MUSEAM- It is founded in 1895. It is open to the public for viewing their out standing taxidermy and living species of collections are there. Taxidermy collections more than 500 species of animals, birds and insects.   14. Pillar Rocks- Is a set of three giant rock pillars which stand 122 meters. There is an excellent public garden adjacent to the viewpoint. GUNA CAVES (called Devil s Kitchen) are deep bat- infested chambers between the three gigantic boulders that are Pillar Rocks. The deep narrow ravines of the caves are now closed to public due to the tragic death of youths. KODAIKANAL PILLAR ROCKS & GUNA CAVES

  15. SILVER CASCADE-A water fall formed from the outflow of Kodai Kanal lake. Water quality is reportedly poor and not good enough for bathing. KODAIKANAL DOLPHIN S NOSE-8 kilometres from bus stand is flat rock projecting over a breathtaking chasm 6,600mt deep. It is an undisturbed area 1 Kilometre down a very steep rocky trail beginning soon after Pambar bridge. Beautiful views of steep rocky escarpments rising from the plains can be seen.   16. Kurinji Andavar Murugan Temple is famous for kurinji flower which blossoms in the area only once every 12 years. The deity here is called Sri Kurinji Easwaram (Lord Murugan). kodaiKanal Solar Observatory The first observation were commenced in1909. The KodaiKanal Terrestrial Telescope can view a grant panorama including Sothuparai Dam, Vaigai Dam, Periyakulam and Varaha river.
