  2. 2 Study Committee Introduction Scope Study Committee A1, dealing with Rotating Electrical Machines, promote the progress of engineering and the international exchange of information and knowledge in the field of electrical rotating machines SC A1 is active in the areas of Turbo-Generators, Hydro-Generators, Large Motors, High Efficiency Motors and New Technologies Material presented by Canadian representative or delegate Strategic Direction Create greater awareness of study committee activities in Canada Generate interest and promote Study Committee work Involve a broader audience 2023 CIGRE Canada Study Committees Update Meeting September 27

Objectives of the study committee Strategic Direction SC A1 has 24 regular members, 13 observer members, 8 technical advisors, chairman and secretary and around 400 experts from 41 countries contributing to A1 activities and attending A1 meetings and colloquiums. Members of our Study Committee are from Utilities, Manufacturers, Consultants, Universities; The activities of the Study Committee have been driven by the following six key main Strategic Directions: SD 1: Asset Management SD 2: Machine/System Interaction SD 3: Renewable Generation SD 4: Large Motors SD 5: Machine Monitoring, Diagnosis and Prognosis SD 6: Efficiency of Electrical Machines Research Centers and 2023 CIGRE Canada Study Committees Update Meeting September 27 3

Preferential Subjects PS 1:Rotating electrical machines and the energy transition Impact od the energy transition, flexible operation of rotating machines Changing requirements on rotating machines to support evolution of smart grid Update of international standards for electrical machine requirements to reflect future applications PS 2: Evolution and development Developments in the design of generator for new application such as wind turbine , synchronous compensators and variable speed pump storage Improvements in design, manufacture, efficiency, insultation, cooling, bearing and materials Design evolution of rotating electrical machines based on operational experience PS 3:Keeping the lights on Condition monitoring, diagnosis, prognosis of rotating electrical machines including the use of artificial intelligence, deep learning techniques and digital twin concept Ensuring power supply reliability by asset management of installed bas and maintenance practices 2023 CIGRE Canada Study Committees Update Meeting September 27 4
