  7. Non History example Model answer Which of the following was the most important reason for Donald Trump losing the election? [12] Introduction Weaknesses of Donald Trump s campaign Strengths of Joe Biden s campaign Keep it short. Signpost where your argument is going. Introduction Many different factors could be argued to be most important in Donald Trump s election loss. Two central factors were the weaknesses of Trump s campaign, and the strengths of Joe Biden s campaign of these two, a strong case can be made that Trump s weaknesses were more significant.

  8. Non History example Model answer Which of the following was the most important reason for Donald Trump losing the election? [12] Paragraph 2 Weaknesses of Donald Trump s campaign Strengths of Joe Biden s campaign Assess the first bullet point how significant was it? Paragraph 2 Assessment of the first bullet point. One reason why Donald Trump lost the election was due to the weaknesses of his own campaign. This involved resorting to made-up statistics and bragging, along with personal insults against his opponent. This was important because it made many to feel he was a poor candidate to be president. His campaign also failed to reach key sections of the population, after his aggressive response to social movements like Black Lives Matter. These weaknesses were fundamental in causing his downfall after a shock victory against Hilary Clinton in 2016. Avoid mentioning any other factors.

  9. Non History example Model answer Which of the following was the most important reason for Donald Trump losing the election? [12] Paragraph 3 Weaknesses of Donald Trump s campaign Strengths of Joe Biden s campaign Assess the second bullet point how significant was it? Paragraph 3 Assessment of the second bullet point. Another reason why Donald Trump lost the election was due to the strengths of Joe Biden s campaign. This involved an appeal to the diversity of the American population, and running with a vice- presidential candidate from an ethnic minority background. This was important because it meant he could appeal to a wider group of voters. Biden s campaign also tried to put forward a positive and optimistic message of bringing the country together, which may have resonated after a period of intense social division and bitterness. Avoid mentioning any other factors.

  10. Non History example Model answer Which of the following was the most important reason for Donald Trump losing the election? [12] Paragraph 4 Weaknesses of Donald Trump s campaign Strengths of Joe Biden s campaign Explain your reasoning for which bullet point was more important. Conclusion. Overall, the weaknesses of Donald Trump s campaign were more important than the strengths of Joe Biden s campaign because many of these strengths were also present for Hilary Clinton, who was defeated by Donald Trump in 2016. She also claimed to represent a diverse coalition of the American population, and styled her message as optimistic, but in that election, Trump won so these strengths cannot have been decisive. The election loss was down to Trump s own weaknesses in the run up to November 2020. Avoid bringing in lots of new information analyse the points you ve already made.

  11. History example Weimar weakness or Nazi Strength? Which of the following was the most important reason for the rise of the Nazis to power? THINK Weaknesses of the Weimar Government Strengths of the NSDAP (Nazis) What do my paragraphs need to be focused on? 1. Introduction What should I avoid talking about? 2. Paragraph 2 Weimar weaknesses 3. Paragraph 3 NSDAP Strengths 4. Conclusion Which one mattered most overall?

  12. History example Weimar weakness or Nazi Strength? Which of the following was the most important reason for the rise of the Nazis to power? Introduction Weaknesses of the Weimar Government Strengths of the NSDAP (Nazis) Keep it short. Introduction Signpost where your argument is going. There were many factors which led to the rise of the Nazis to power in 1933. Two major reasons were the weaknesses of the Weimar Government and the strengths of the NSDAP of these, a strong case can be made that the strengths of the NSDAP were more significant overall.

  13. History example Weimar weakness or Nazi Strength? Which of the following was the most important reason for the rise of the Nazis to power? Paragraph 2 Weaknesses of the Weimar Government Strengths of the NSDAP (Nazis) Assess the first bullet point. Paragraph 2 Assessment of the first bullet point. One reason why the Nazis rose to power was due to the weaknesses of the Weimar Government. This involved a long-term association with the signing of the armistice after the First World War, and with the Treaty of Versailles. This was important because many felt that the Weimar Republic was built by the November Criminals , who had betrayed Germany by surrendering during the First World War, and then agreeing to the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles. Additionally, Weimar s voting system of Proportional Representation caused an indecisiveness in the Reichstag as parties were unable to secure majorities. This led many to feel the Weimar Republic was weak and needed to be overthrown in order to restore Germany to glory. Avoid talking about other factors.

  14. History example Weimar weakness or Nazi Strength? Which of the following was the most important reason for the rise of the Nazis to power? Paragraph 3 Weaknesses of the Weimar Government Strengths of the NSDAP (Nazis) Assess the second bullet point. Paragraph 3 Assessment of the second bullet point. Another reason why the Nazis rose to power was due to the strengths of the NSDAP. This involved the clever use of propaganda designed to appeal to many different social classes in Germany. This important because it meant that the Nazi message was constantly available to voters, and designed to appeal to their emotions for example, they appealed to the working class with the simple slogan Work and bread . Additionally, Hitler was a gifted orator, capable of electrifying large crowds with his speeches this was crucial, because it meant large numbers attended Nazi rallies, giving an impression of strength, power and momentum. Avoid talking about other factors.

  15. History example Weimar weakness or Nazi Strength? Which of the following was the most important reason for the rise of the Nazis to power? Conclusion Weaknesses of the Weimar Government Strengths of the NSDAP (Nazis) Explain which bullet was more important. Paragraph 4 Conclusion about which bullet point was most important. Avoid bringing in new points analyse what you ve mentioned already. Overall the strengths of the NSDAP were more important than the weaknesses of the Weimar government because without the Nazis clever use of propaganda and Hitler s charisma, other parties could just as easily have capitalised on the weaknesses of the Weimar government and seized power instead of the Nazis. There were other extremist groups who hated the Weimar Republic and had a significant following, for example the communists they could have been the ones to rise to power if the NSDAP had not been superior in their use of propaganda and other methods to gain popularity.

  18. Student Practice Economic problems or political unrest? Which of the following was the more important reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger in the years 1918 1923? Economic problems Political Unrest Introduction Keep it short. Signpost where your argument is going. Introduction There were many factors which led to the Weimar Republic being in danger from 1918-23. Two major reasons were economic problems and political unrest. Of these, a strong case can be made that political unrest was the more significant threat.

  19. Student Practice Economic problems or political unrest? Which of the following was the more important reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger in the years 1918 1923? Economic problems Political Unrest Paragraph 2 Assess the first bullet point. Paragraph 2 Economic problems. One reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger from 1918-23 was due to economic problems. This involved starting from a weak economic position after WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles, which saddled an already diminished Germany with very significant debt to other countries. This was important because it created major resentment among the German population for the victorious countries, and paved the way for the occupation of the Ruhr and the hyperinflation crisis, where the situation became so dire that money was effectively worthless and German society was nearing collapse. Avoid mentioning other factors.

  20. Student Practice Economic problems or political unrest? Which of the following was the more important reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger in the years 1918 1923? Economic problems Political Unrest Paragraph 3 Assess the second bullet point. Paragraph 3 Political Unrest. Another reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger from 1918-23 was due to political unrest. This involved both a major attempt at a communist revolution in 1918 and the right-wing Kapp Putsch in 1920. This was important because on both occasions the Weimar Republic was very nearly overthrown the communists were able to seize Berlin for a while and there were uprising across the country until the SPD had their leaders executed, and during the Kapp Putsch the Weimar government was outright replaced for a short period by Kapp, a right wing bureaucrat it took a general strike to rescue Weimar. Avoid mentioning other factors.

  21. Student Practice Economic problems or political unrest? Which of the following was the more important reason why the Weimar Republic was in danger in the years 1918 1923? Economic problems Political Unrest Paragraph 4 Explain which bullet was most important. Paragraph 4 Conclusion. Don t bring in new points analyse what you ve already mentioned. Overall, political unrest was more important than economic problems in causing the Weimar Republic to be in danger from 1918-23, because although the economic problems experienced in this period were severe, they did not come as close to wholly destroying the Weimar Republic as political unrest did. In the case of the Kapp Putsch, the Weimar Republic was literally replaced and even though this was only for a short period, this made political unrest an evidently greater danger than the economic problems of the Treaty of Versailles and the hyperinflation crisis.
