  2. Our Operating Area NSWPB is one of 26 workforce planning boards across Ontario that provide local information and solutions related to the labour force.

  3. What We Stand For Vision A strategically aligned labour force to meet demands across Northwestern Ontario. Mission Engaging community partners in leading collaborative workforce development planning. Mandate Leading in the creation of innovative labour market solutions.

  4. Projects 2022-2023 Local Labour Market Plan Analysis of labour market data relevant to the District of Thunder Bay. Developed action plans to address workforce challenges. Key partnerships with service providers, stakeholders and partners. Digital Society Understanding of digital ecosystem in Northwestern Ontario. Identified areas where digital gaps exist in both indigenous and non-indigenous communities.

  5. Projects 2022-2023 Mining Support and Services Sector Needs Administer and survey and research tool to collect information regarding current and future workforce needs. LBS Broader Promotion of Skilled Trades and Workforce resources. Wellness Pillars Report Research and analysis of mental health and well- being indicators on the eight pillars of Wellness: physical, nutritional, mental, social, spiritual, intellectual, professional and community Talent Retention Project Phase 1 Research into why international students are leaving for work when there is a shortage of skilled and educated workers in NWO.

Partnerships 2022-23 Mining Corporations in NWO Oskosh Machete-o-win Forest Industry Lakehead District School Board Ontario Hydro Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Corporation Trade Unions Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce DSSABs Northern Ontario Workforce Planning Boards NEW Lakehead University Thunder Bay District Municipalities Confederation College North and remote First Nation Communities Northern Policy Institute Thunder Bay Multicultural Association YES Employment Services Literacy North West Boards of Education

  7. Projects 2023-2024 Local Labour Market Plan Analysis of labour market data relevant to the District of Thunder Bay. Developed action plans to address workforce challenges. Key partnerships with service providers, stakeholders and partners. Digital Society Continuation of research and analysis of digital ecosystem in Northwestern Ontario. Identified areas where digital gaps exist in both indigenous and non-indigenous communities.

Projects 2023-2024 Transportation Analysis of the importance and issues facing transportation (air, water, land and rail) in relation to indigenous and non-indigenous communities, the mining, forestry and energy sectors in the District of Thunder Bay. LBS Broader Promotion of Skilled Trades and Workforce resources. Talent Retention Project Phase 2 Research into development of internships and employment opportunities to retain internationally trained students. Skills Development/Demand (proposed) Understanding how individual skills set match up to employer demands.

Research and Data Support Economic Development NSWPB has a large body of resources and data that would be beneficial to workforce development. - Strategic plans for community development - Support attraction of new industries and re-development of existing ones. - Gaps in the local labour forces skills and education. - Training needs or what investments are needed to strengthen local labour force.

  11. Simple, yet highly effective networking program that helps local businesses and organizations connect with community newcomers and recent local and international graduates who are interested in starting and growing their careers.
