Empowering Teachers through Mentorship: Erasmus+ Multiplier Event in Novi Sad

This event, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, brought together 44 teachers from Serbia to explore the significance of mentoring in education. Participants engaged in surveys, discussions, and practical activities to enhance their self-confidence as mentors and support the self-confidence of mentees. The event highlighted the benefits and challenges of being a mentor, emphasizing professional development, self-evaluation, and the importance of mentorship in educators' growth. Attendees explored factors influencing mentors' and mentees' self-confidence, aiming to improve collaborative success.

  2. The event was attended by 44 teachers from Serbia

  3. At the beginning of the event ... Attendees filled in a before-event and after- event survey. They expressed their opinion on the topic of mentoring and assessed the event. The role of the mentor: I think the mentor s role is very important as with his/her knowledge the mentor can be of great help to younger colleagues. The importance of mentoring: When I started teaching I had no mentor and every day I faced some issues and challenges about the syllabus, proper reactions in various situations, preparing students for competitions

  4. Three main advantages of being a mentor: 1. Growing together 2. Professional development 3. Self-evaluation Disadvatages of being a mentor: 1. time/bureaucracy 2. motivation/money

  5. Event activities Our event included 3 practical parts with tasks focusing on mentor s self-confidence, personal prerequisites and identification of personal traits important for successful collaboration.

  6. EXAMPLES OF TASKS MENTORS SELF-CONFIDENCE Determining the impact of different factors on mentors self confidence Focus: Aim: To raise mentor s awareness of the importance of self-confidence Interaction pattern: Individual and group work Procedure:

  7. HOW TO BOOST MENTEES SELF-CONFIDENCE? Increasing mentors awareness on how previously determined factors shape mentees self-confidence to improve mentors knowledge of the importance of applying different factors that can boost mentees self-confidence Focus: Aim: Interaction pattern: Group work Procedure: Think of situations in which mentees show a high or low level of self- confidence. Enlist the factors that cause their high or low level of self-confidence. Decide if factors identified in previous task are applicable here. Define the most adequate level of mentee s self-confidence. Is it possible to boost or lower the mentee s self-confidence in previously identified situations.

PERSONAL PREREQUISITES Focus: Identifying personal prerequisites, preparedness and motivation of mentee To reflect on personal prerequisites, preparedness and motivation of mentees and to motivate the mentor to formulate their further personal development. Aim: Interaction pattern: Individual and pair work Think of your own qualities and motivation. Procedure: 3. 4. 1. My most important personality trait as a teacher 2. What I aspire to be 3. What I want to change 4. My strongest professional competence 5. My weakest professional competence 2. 5. Based on the palm drawings suggest the areas for improvement and through discussion design the steps for improvement in the form of a concept map. 1.

Participants' Assessment of the Event Attendees expressed a very high satisfaction with the event (M = 4.8; SD = 0.42, on the scale 1-5) Some of their comments: very good selection of tasks for practical work , the seminar gives us an insight into our own capabilities to evaluate ourselves and how others perceive us

Their interest in the tasks indicates a need for more frequent opportunities for discussion and exchange of experience, these are recognized to be particularly helpful; Suggestions of attendees: creating networks of mentors; providing more forms for the mentee s assessment; an insight into mentoring practices in other countries. And this is what it looked like
