The parable in Matthew 22:1-14 illustrates the varying responses to the call of the Kingdom of God. It shows how God's invitation is extended to all, including both the good and the bad, highlighting the importance of being prepared and accepting God's grace. The parable conveys a message about the rejection of God's salvation by some, the judgment that follows, and the importance of being clothed with righteousness through faith. It emphasizes the inclusive nature of God's invitation while cautioning against complacency and lack of genuine conviction in Christ.

  2. Introduction Kingdom of God series continued Forecast the future sermon plans Property, nature and phenomenon related to Jesus message

  3. Mat 22:1-14 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables, and said, (2) The kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king who made a marriage for his son. (3) And he sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they would not come. (4) Again he sent out other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage.

  4. Mat 22:1-14 (cont.) (5) But not caring, they went their ways, one to his field, another to his trading. (6) And the rest took his servants and treated them spitefully, and killed them. (7) But when the king heard, he was angry. And he sent out his armies and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. (8) Then he said to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy. (9) Therefore go into the exits of the highways, and as many as you shall find, invite them to the marriage.

  5. Mat 22:1-14 (cont.) (10) So the servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. And the wedding was filled with reclining guests. (11) And the king coming in to look over the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. (12) And he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here without having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. (13) Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (14) For many are called, but few chosen.

  6. Meaning of the Parable (1) The Jews reject God s grace and salvation and are rejected as unworthy God will judge the Jews (sacking of Jerusalem in 70 AD) God s grace and salvation is in turn offered to all in Christ

  7. Meaning of the Parable (2) Both the good and the bad, or the worthy and unworthy, came to Christ There are people accepted Christ but have NO conviction in Christ These without fruits from conviction in Christ are judged unworthy as the Jews, and are also rejected.

  8. Reasons for Declining the Invitation But not caring, they went their ways, one to his field, another to his trading. Their rejection is indicative of their unworthiness to inherit the kingdom.

  9. Wedding garment Symbolizes the fruit we bear in Christ Righteousness Rev 3:4-6 people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. (5) The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. (6) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Fruit of the spirit Fruit of the gospel evangelism

  10. Without Garment Having no conviction Not Caring! It stems from a sense of entitlement and an unconcerned attitude, exemplified in inaction, or fruitlessness.

  11. Rejection by God It was an outcome of God s judgment Speechless Not from negligence or ignorance; being in an indefensible position

  12. Attempted effect of the parable It is a testament which reveals the hearts of people. It is a stabbing of the heart It is a warning (or a pleading? ) Deu 30:19 Deu 30:19-20 Deu 30:19-20 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, (20) loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days Listen and take action from the heart!

  13. Conclusions What is your response to God s invitation Many are called in the church, but few are with wedding garment We live our Christian lives not only in Christ, but also because of Christ Those who rejects Christ or accepts Christ but lives a life in spite of Christ will suffer the same fate before God
