Growing Seeds Experiment Growing Seeds Experiment Teacher Resource Document Growing plants from seeds is a seamless way to allow students to explore their curiosity about the how the world works while connecting with nature and implementing their scientific inquiry skills. Required Materials: Seeds (beans, radishes, or lettuce would work well!) Compost Seed trays or small plant pots In this lesson, students are challenged to: Make observations about seeds and compost Predict the environmental needs of plant for growth Investigate how altering a plant's environment may affect its growth Collect, analyze, and report data to support or refute their hypotheses. Remember, students are designing an experiment and may need more materials! The Garden Classroom suggests the following investigations if your students need more guidance: Try growing some seeds in the dark Try growing some seeds without any water. Try growing some in warmer or cooler temperatures Try growing seeds in just water, without compost This lesson is intended to be student-driven. Depending on resources, this can be a whole- class experiment or different groups can investigate the various predicted needs of plants.   2. Design an ID for the science lab that you work in. Be sure to list your name, grade, and personalize your person! What can you observe about the seeds and compost? Write three observations. Create a labeled sketch of a seed in the box to the right. What do seeds need to grow?

  4. Using gray-day data, draw a comic of your plant's growth during your experiment Create a line graph showing your plant's growth vs. our control plant's growth! Don't forget to make a key! Explain your results What would you like to investigate in the future?
