  1. Lesson 7 LO: To explore the character of the highwayman, distinguishing between fact and opinion

  2. The Facts Highwaymen were men on horseback who robbed innocent people. But who is the highwayman in Alfred Noyes poem and how much do we really know about him? Look through the poem and make a note of any facts you find about the highwayman. Hint: A fact is something that is definitely true.

  3. Lesson The Opinions Now let s think about the opinions that the characters in the poem might have about the highwayman. Tim, Bess andKing George s men all probably had strong opinions of the highwayman. The highwayman will also have had opinions about himself. Imagine the opinions that the characters had of the highwayman. Use evidence from the poem to justify your ideas. Hint: An opinion is a personal belief about something or someone. Opinions are not always true and can change from person to person.

  4. The Opinions Let s collect all the opinions we think the characters have about the highwayman. (use worksheets)
