  1. New Hire Policy and Procedure Review

  2. We are excited for you to start your career with us. This training covers information about key policies and procedures and must be completed prior to the commencement of your employment. Please use the links provided to read through each policy. You will be required to take a quiz after your review of the policies is completed. Your quiz will be scored automatically. If you do not pass, you will be required to retake the quiz and receive a passing score.

  4. Code of Professional Behavior Hospital Policy HR 326 Triangle Policy THA 326 Union Hospital and its affiliates are committed to an environment of collegiality and professionalism. It is our goal to create and reinforce an atmosphere of mutual respect for all who work or practice here. Through this policy, it is our intent to optimize communication and interpersonal relations among all constituents so that we may ultimately improve the care that is given to our patients. We want to prevent any conduct, which interferes with an individual s ability to practice safely, creates a hostile or intimidating work environment, or behaviors that undermine a culture of safety the delivery of patient care.

Equal Employment Opportunity Hospital Policy HR 403 Triangle Policy THA 403 It is the policy of Union Hospital/Triangle Health Alliance to offer equal employment opportunities and not to discriminate with respect to employment, or any of the terms and conditions of employment, on the basis of race, color, religion/creed, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation or any other consideration prohibited under applicable federal, state, or local law.

Harassment Hospital Policy HR 317 Triangle Policy THA 317 Union Hospital / Triangle Health Alliance comply with federal, state and local laws prohibiting discrimination including harassment in the workplace on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, disability, sexual preference or national origin. Disruptive and intimidating behaviors contribute to employee turnover, lack of productivity, poor quality of care/safety etc. Staff should report disruptive behavior/harassment concerns to their supervisor or to Human Resources. These concerns are thoroughly investigated, addressed and kept confidential There will be no retaliation against any employee who reports harassment.

  7. Anti-Retaliation Hospital Policy HR 323 Triangle Policy THA 323 Retaliation against any employee who reports discrimination, harassment, or non-compliance with other laws or company policies or who cooperates with an investigation of same is prohibited.

  8. Employee Cultural, Ethical & Religious Values in Patient Care Setting Hospital Policy HR 309 Triangle Policy THA 309 We recognize that employees may not be comfortable participating in some aspects of patient care, e.g., sterilization, blood transfusions and the removal of life support. It is our policy to allow employees to request not to participate in certain aspects of patient care. The policy above describes the mechanisms by which an employee may formally submit a request to their supervisor. The delivery of quality healthcare to all is our priority and accordingly, a request not to participate in a patients care may be declined if under circumstances patient safety would be jeopardized.

  9. Tobacco Free Workplace Hospital Policy HR 324 Triangle Policy THA 324 Tobacco use is prohibited anywhere in the designated hospital campus, including within personal vehicles parked on the hospital property There are no designated smoking areas on the campus

  10. Solicitation and Distribution of Literature Hospital Policy HR 315 Triangle Policy THA 315 Solicitation and distribution of non-company literature are restricted to: Non-working time Outside of hospital Never to patients/visitors

Use of Computers, Telephones and Other Equipment Hospital Policy HR 319 Triangle Policy THA 319 The computer systems, office telephones, voice mail system, e-mail system, modems, facsimile machines, duplicating machines, and other technical resources, are provided for use in the pursuit of company business and are to be used for that purpose. The company may access and monitor communications made with company equipment and information stored on company equipment.

  12. Cell Phone/Camera Phone Use Hospital Policy HR 325 Triangle Policy THA 325 Use of personal cell phones/other personal devices is not permitted during working times and should be only during assigned break times. Patient safety is paramount.

  13. Social Media Policy Hospital Policy HR 330 Triangle Policy THA 330 Employees may access Facebook during work time, exclusively during breaks or at the direction of management, for the sole purpose of viewing the Union Hospital Employee page. Employees are expected to act responsibly and in accordance with Union Hospital policies and procedures.

  14. Professional Image Hospital Policy HR 305 Triangle Policy THA 305 The purpose of the Professional Image Policy is to set a standard of dress for all employees, volunteers and contracted personnel who work within the organization.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities Policy AG-245 Union Hospital respects the rights of the patient Employees are expected to be aware of these rights that support and inform each patient of his/her rights and responsibilities. These rights are extended to each patient regardless of the patient's age, sex, race, national origin, ethnic group, religion, sexual orientation, socio- economic status, or cultural background, disability or source of payment.

  17. Patient Rights Patients rights include the right to receive information about their treatment in a manner they understand. Interpreters: Interpreters are available Union utilizes services such as Pacific Interpreters (1-800-311-1232) Visit the Intranet Departments/Customer Service/Interpreter Information for a comprehensive list of interpreters Big Button Phone for Vision Impaired patients

  18. Interpreting Information Family members are not to interpret for patients (includes sign language and spoken languages) Telephone Interpreters are the preferred method for spoken languages. Dual handset phones are in each department Clinical Staff can interpret & must document conversation in the medical record. Clinical Staff do not need to test to interpret Non-Clinical Staff must be Qualified Bilingual Staff (QBS) Level 1 Conversation tested or Level 2 Medical Terminology tested to interpret. The care giver must document in the medical record

  19. Is anyone Bilingual that would like to interpret for patients or families? If so, contact Sandie Newman extension 7054 for information to sign up for Qualified Bilingual Staff training Non-Clinical Staff are not able to interpret without taking this 3 day class approved by your supervisor and assessed for Level 1 or Level 2 interpreting Clinical Staff does not need to test in order to interpret The names of Non-Clinical staff qualified to interpret are listed on the Intranet (Department tab, Customer Service)

  20. For the hearing impaired, Deaf Talk can be accessed on any Lap Top Computer or Tablet The link https://uhcc.bluestreamhealth.com is on the Intranet. Each department has the same password - union1ls (the letter after the number 1 is a lowercase L). Customer Service also has a mobile unit you can sign out if needed. We encourage you to make a test call on a laptop or tablet. Please type "test" in the data fields and notify the interpreter that you are just testing. We do ask that you please limit test calls to under 2 minutes.

  21. Teamwork in Healthcare We all need to remember that regardless of position or department, we all work for the same purpose. All healthcare workers and volunteers must be interdependent of each other and be supportive and cooperative. Staff meetings, huddles, multidisciplinary groups, employee forums and rounding all contribute to effective teamwork. To help meet our goals with regard to patient safety and quality of care, we all (staff/physicians/volunteers) must collaborate, communicate and work together.
