1. Celebrating the Liturgical Year in a Catholic School 28THAUGUST 2019

2. Liturgical Year The notion of time helps us celebrate life by marking and recalling the important dates and events in our lives eg: Birthdays, anniversaries , graduations, etc. Time has an important place in our spiritual life: It helps us reconnect with God. There are two types of time: 1. Chronos - is the time we measure e.g. hours, days, weeks, minutes 2. Kairos - can be described with a religious focus as the Lord s time.

3. Liturgical Year/Calendar The Liturgical Calendar embodies a rich tradition and shapes the way we experience worship, enriching and strengthening our spiritual journey. The Liturgical Calendar structures our year enabling us to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The liturgical calendar is cyclical in nature. The calendar remains the same but we experience the liturgical seasons in a different way each time of encounter. It is crucial that we provide our Catholic School students with a varied and deep experience of the Church s seasons. There are many adaptations possible that allow for connections for students, and develop a sense of belonging to something that is bigger than the individual, and ultimately, life-giving and nourishing.

4. The Church calendar or Church year begins with the Holy season of Advent. The Church year begins in late November or Early December. Four weeks prior to December 25. Each season in the Liturgical calendar has a particular theme. Each season has a particular liturgical color. Each season concentrates on different parts of the Bible. Each season has different religious practices, and symbols.
