Place value chart Hundreds Tens Units Tenths Hundredths Decimal point . Never be without one!
Hundred Square Should you start with 0 to reinforce place value? Or start with 1? See layout starting with 0 in NALA s Brushing Up on numeracy
Use a blank hundred square to show 1/100 or 1% or 0.01 Make your own fraction/ decimal/ percentage strips
Multiplication square So that s what a square number looks like Handy guide for adults / carers much more manageable (and fewer unpleasant memories) than times table charts
Sieve of Eratosthenes I have heard of prime numbers, but I never had a clue what one was..Now I get it
A Fraction Wall Make one from blank card a great hands on tool. It s much better than just having fractions on the board and trying to remember them
Adding numbers using number lines +1 +1 +1 6+3=? I always saw one of those on the desk at school but I never knew what it was for.. Also use for counting on in subtraction, working larger numbers including dates
Games Dice, cards and dominoes
Race to 100 First player rolls two dice in turn and adds up the total of the two dice. Player then puts that score on the hundred square/ keeps a tally. Play continues to the left. First player to reach100 wins. The exact number is required to reach 100 . When 6 or less spaces are left, the player only rolls one dice. This can be done in reverse to subtract from 100. You can also use it for multiplication or division.
Multiplication dominoes 2 or more players Put all the dominoes face down. Each player turns up a domino and multiplies the two numbers on the domino. Whoever has the highest number keeps all the dominoes from that round. If there is a tie, then those who have a tie pick up another domino. Whoever has the higher number keeps all the dominoes from that round. When all dominoes are used up, the person with the most dominoes wins the game.
Multiplication war 1. Take out all the Kings, Queens, Jacks and jokers. Put all the remaining cards in a pile. 2 Each player takes two cards from the pile and does not look at them. 3 The first player then puts their two cards face up in front of them, multiplies the two cards and calls out the product. Play continues to the left. The player with the largest product wins all the cards in that round. 4 Play continues until there are no cards left in the pile. 5 The player with the most cards wins the game.
