This PowerPoint presentation has been designed to help familiarize judges with the #OUVirtualExpo judging process. Thank you again for agreeing to be a judge at the 2021 #OUVirtualExpo!

What to Expect.. Videos will be assigned to a judging session based on the presenter s academic discipline. Pairs of judges will review uploaded videos and select awardees. One judge from each session will submit selections via the Qualtrics survey by April 2. Awards will be announced @bobcatsdiscover April 8-10. Awards are $150 (1st) and $75 (2nd) or $112.50 (joint 1stplace) for each judging session.

Judging Session Assignments Videos will be assigned to a judging session based on the presenter s academic discipline. Typically, 5-10 entries are assigned by department to a session, e.g., Chemistry. If we have enough entries, we might have two sessions, e.g., Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2. If we do not have sufficient entries, we might combine entries from multiple departments into a single session, e.g., Physical Sciences.

Judging Assignments Two judges are assigned to judge each session. Judges are assigned based on familiarity with the session subject area BUT are not assigned to videos from their own department/schools. If a judge has a conflict of interest in judging a particular presentation, then the judge should: o Inform their partner judge o Recuse themself for that presentation

Judging Schedule By March 24: ROX will assign and confirm judges and send links for videos to judges. ASAP: Judges should reach out to their partner judge to confirm how they will review videos: o Judges can review videos together or individually. o Judges must come to a consensus about awardees. By April 2: One of the partner judges must complete the Qualtrics Survey, #OUVirtual Expo Session Awardees o The Survey link will be emailed to judges along with list of the videos.

Judging Criteria for the Expo IMPORTANT! Videos should be judged based on the presentation of the work.

Suggested Judging Criteria: Scientific Attractiveness o Don t just give points for a slick presentation. o Judge the quality of the presentation of the content. Content flow o Is the video self-explanatory? o Is the methodology clear? o Are results well presented and understandable? Conclusion o Do the results support the conclusions drawn? o Do the conclusions follow the original intent? o Is there creativity in the investigation?

Suggested Judging Criteria: Creative Attractiveness o Don t just give points for a slick presentation. o Judge the quality of the presentation of the content. Content flow o Is the exhibit self-explanatory? o Are outcomes well presented and understandable? o Is there creativity in the presentation?

Suggested Judging Criteria Look for students who have taken ownership of their project and can explain: Their role The need or opportunity for the project The methodology to a lay person The project outcomes and strategies for continuation or dissemination of the project

Award Selection Partner judges for each session must come to a consensus. Mixed UG/G Session: o Judges may elect to give two joint 1st place prizes: One for an UG student One for a post-degree student [MA, MS, MFA, PhD, DO]. In this case a 2nd place prize will not be awarded. o Expectations for UG vs. G/Med students tend to be discipline specific and therefore will be at the discretion of the judges. UG or G sessions only: o Judges must select a 1st and 2nd place prize. Regretfully we do not have a mechanism in place to award additional prizes or honorable mentions.

Remember: Judges are directed to judge based on the presentation of the work rather than the impact (intellectual merit) of the research/creative work. The scope of the projects and the impact will often vary, especially for UG vs. G projects. Focus your decisions on the student s presentation of their knowledge of the need/opportunity for the project, role, and the strategies for continuation of or dissemination of the project.
