Good and Bad Traits of Spiritual Leaders 1 Thessalonians Chapter 2 1. Good: Boldness to declare the gospel of God amid conflict/persecution. (2:2) 2. Bad: Incorrect/false teaching, being sexually motivated, deceptive. (2:3) 3. Good: Seeking to please God, not men. (2:4) 4. Bad: Using flattery and pursuing money. (2:5) 5. Bad: Relating through position/authority instead of familial bonds. (2:6) 6. Good: Delightfully pouring their life out for others. (2:7-8) 7. Good: Encouraging and exhorting those around them to walk in a manner worthy of God. (2:12)
6. Pursues maximal joy in this life (and beyond) by expending their life for the good of others.
1 Thessalonians 3:9-12 9For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our God,10as we pray most earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith? 11Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you,12and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you,13so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
Parallel Passage: Philippians 1:9-11 9And it is my prayer that yourlove may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,10so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

We first have to spend life (time) together.
1 Thessalonians 3:9-12 12 and MAY THE LORD make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you,13so that HE may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
Parallel Passage: Philippians 1:9-11 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness THAT COMES THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, to the glory and praise of God.
How do we grow in our affection and love for one another? 1. We ask God to give it to us.

1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 19For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?20 For you are our glory and joy.
Philippians 4:1 4 Therefore, my brothers,whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.
How do we get the correct perspective on what is important in life? Renew our mind s through Bible study. (Romans 12:1-2)
How do we get the correct perspective on what is important in life? Living your life with eternal perspective results in seeing the value/benefit of current hardship.
Hebrews 12:1-3 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
The Joy of Selfless Love Pursue maximal joy in this life (and beyond) by expending your life for the good of others.
