Malignant Melanoma of Left Eye Lower Lid - Case Presentation

A rare case of malignant melanoma affecting the lower lid of a 50-year-old female is discussed in this e-poster. The lesion, with characteristic pigmentation and irregular borders, was successfully diagnosed through incision biopsy and histopathological examination. The patient underwent wide excision and reconstruction procedures under general anesthesia. Early detection and appropriate management play a crucial role in the prognosis of such tumors.

2. INTRODUCTION It is a rare tumor of eyelid accounting less than 1% of all eyelid lesions. Pigmentation is a hallmark of melanoma. It arise from a pre-existing nevus. Early detection carries a good prognosis.

3. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 50-year-old female presented with pigmented lesion over the left eye lower lid increasing in size since 10 years. There was a blackish pigmented lesion with irregular borders with the present size of 4X3cms extending from medial end of lower lid to the lateral end. Ultrasound abdomen revealed normal liver and spleen parenchyma. No metastasis were detected.

On Ocular examination RE LE BCVA EYELIDS 6/9 Normal 6/12 Lower Lid Malignant melanoma, Mild ectropion Quiet Clear Normal Depth CONJUNCTIVA CORNEA ANTERIOR CHAMBER Normal Depth Quiet Clear IRIS PUPIL Normal Pattern Normal Size Normal Reaction to light NS Grade 1 Within normal limits Normal Pattern Normal size Normal Reaction to light NS Grade 2 Within normal limits LENS FUNDUS

6. DISCUSSION : Case was diagnosed as LE Lower Lid Malignant melanoma. It was confirmed by incision biopsy. The sample was sent to HPE which showed large atypical melanocytes invading the dermis. CONCLUSION: Case was posted under general anesthesia for wide excision and LE Lower Lid posterior lamellar repair was done by Hughes procedure. Anterior lamellar reconstruction was done by using free skin graft taken from supraclavicular area.
